Serenity's got about another 32 hours before they hit Ezra.

The waiting before a job is usually the worst part, and today Mal is feeling it more so than others. He's checking in with the bar when he receives an eyepatch and a watergun the likes of which he hasn't seen since that ridiculous Assassin game in April.

There's a smirk when he shoves the eyepatch into his pocket, hopping behind the bar and scrawling out a sign before asking Bar for a 3' by 5' cloth.

Mal walks out the door to the lake, damn near whistling.

[ooc: I'm on gchat for any coordinating that might want to happen. Uh. It's not a huge boat, but it'll do. I'll put up an organizing post somewhere if this gets people involved.

Ianto, whose facial expressions tend to vary from "placid" to "neutral," looks embarrassed.

"I'm not in love with him so he decided to end it."

Ended a relationship because someone didn't love him.
That...that doesn't compute.
Probably because the idea of Constantine being in a relationship at all doesn't compute. Who cares what the answer of B + D equals is if in order to get to B you have to divide zero first.

"I," Ianto says quietly, "would love a hug."

He places his plate down on the sand and crawls over to where Ianto is sitting. Mike hugs are legendary in their ability to comfort those in need. Just the right amount of pressure in just the right amount of time.

Stampy, seeing her daddy leave his plate unattended, decides that now is the best time to ninj her way over so as to get a good snuffle at the delicious treats being kept from her.

Ianto hugs him back, tucking his head in Mike's neck. He exhales slowly.

It helps. It does.

"Stampy's in your food."

The hug tightens.

"Yeah...I kinda figured. I might have threatened her with a live clam before the actual bake. Heh, thing nearly closed on her trunk."

Ianto remains tucked in.

"'Kay. I won't worry about her, then."

"Anything that doesn't kill her will learn her a good solid lesson."

Now there's a soothing back rub to go with the hug.

"Works that way for all of us, I think."

He's quiet a moment. "You know what kills me about this? I thought we were fine. I'd just decided, like, a week before that I could really do it, really be with him, and then he goes and tells me it's over."

Stampy prods the food with a flat foot.
The food doesn't retaliate.
She trumpets with glee, clearly she has vanquished her foe!

"But...you don't love him?"

Ianto shakes his head. "There's no getting around that, is there."

"Trust me when I say that I never wanted to be a romantic, but yeah...there is kinda no way to get around that."

"Yeah." Ianto nods. "I know. I mean, I knew that."

"I'll be honest with you, I don't have a whole lot of first hand knowledge of relationships. Most of what I know I know from tv, talking with April, and here."

"I don't either. I've only been in love once in my life. They say you just know, yeah? And I didn't know, so I couldn't lie to him about it."

"That...that I totally understand. Xander didn't take it well when I chose Mel over him."

"I thought you had a girlfriend. Who's Mel?"

Mike smiles.

"Mel is my girlfriend. It's short for Melaka. She's from the future."

"Okay." He sniffles a little. "But you see how it is, yeah? When you have to make a choice, you can't fake it."

Mike holds him tight again.

"I do. I totally do. Just uh...do me a favor?"

"Sure. What is it?"

Serious face.

"Stay away from him. Constantine, I mean. I...you learn things when you're Barman here. About people. Just try to keep your distance. Give him some space."

Ianto nods slowly. "I know he's not safe. But yeah. I'll stay away. Thanks."

Mike leans over and presses a kiss to Ianto's head.

"Anytime. And if you need anything don't hesitate to ask."

Ianto has to smile at that. He does collect protectors.

"Thank you.

"The seafood is delicious but I'm a bit drained. I think I'm going to head home.

"Thanks for everything, Mike. You're a good bloke."
