Ianto was on his way home when the door opened to Milliways.

(It was meant to be an Indian place. He wanted a kebab.)

He sighs, not really in the mood for socializing, but he has never refused an entry to Milliways when it's come and isn't going to start now.

He gets supper from the bar and sits in a booth near the back of the enormous room where he can eat and spread out his work.

He is not hiding. Perish the thought. He'd just rather not be noticed.

"Then Jack says that he can't get back, and then you'll know. And on the off chance that's not the case, he gets to come to the beach party, and you can drink fruity drinks with him and count the stars."

"What if it makes him sad?" Ianto says seriously. It's a genuine concern for him.

"Then you do something else to make him happy. Something to make up for it."

Ianto smiles to himself. "I'm sure I can think of something, then."

"All right, then," Lorne says. "That's settled. You're bringing your Jack, and I'm bringing my Jack."

"So when should we do this thing?"

"Soon," Lorne says. "Next weekend?"

Making sure he's in the bar then might be difficult...

"I could stick around until then."

Ianto shakes his head. "I can't promise anything that soon. Sometimes days pass before I come back in here."

"Hmm...well, when's good for you?"

"Let me talk to Jack first. See what I can do to figure out what's going on with him."

[ooc: Jack's not coming back in until after we're done OOMing series 1.]

Lorne nods. "Good idea."

[ooc: Gotcha.]

"I hope he can come." He plays with his coffee cup. "Sometimes he's so . . . alone."

Lorne smiles at him. "You take good care of him, don't you?"

"I try to. He can't be bothered to look after himself."

"Yeah, I know a few people like that too. It's good he has someone like you."

"The ones in charge," Ianto says, nodding in understanding.

Lorne chuckles. "Yep. How they get there when they're so bad at taking care of themselves will always be a mystery."

"I think it's absent-minded professor syndrome. People who have so much to think about they don't think about themselves."

"Could be," Lorne agrees. "With my CO, though, he was that way even before he got to be in charge."

"Unorthodox, is he?"

"That's one way of putting it, yeah," Lorne says. "Reckless is the more common term."

"And they still put him in command?"

"He's very...lucky. And he tends to only be reckless with his own life."

"that's much better than what I was thinking," Ianto says. "Because a commander who's careless with his men--that's terrible."

"Oh, yeah," Lorne says, shaking his head. "Sheppard would never be reckless with his men."
