So, she's never walked downstairs from her room and had her clothing suddenly change before. Jenny hasn't left Milliways since the disaster on New Thal and every day has been about the same for her: running, reading, studying, spending time with Bart if he's around.

But clothing changes? Yeah. So very new.

Her eyes glance downward at the change. Her trousers are now practically skin tight and laced up the side of her legs, exposing her pale skin. Black boots go up just to her knees and that white shirt she's wearing is too tight, too short, and too low cut. There are heavy gold braces on each wrist and her eyes widen.

Hands go up through her hair, now down and partially braided. There's some sort of cloth covering it and she wrinkles her nose.

But when Jenny sees the sword hanging off her waist, her eyes light up. Brilliant!

Edward's gaze flickered back to her face, lips pressing into a frown. Her assumption was about as annoying as her playing with his ability was childish.

And maybe he disliked it even more because she was right.

So he was looking at her now. Jenny's eyes narrowed and her brows knit together. Was this a correlation between 'hearing' her or not 'hearing' her? If it was, well, it was absolutely unfair! It wasn't her fault that Gallifreyans had a more evolved brain than a human! Nor was it her fault that she was still struggling to learn how to control it.

Nor that she liked her privacy.

"You're being mean."

Edward paradoxically looked amused.

"How?"

"First you ruin my fun," Jenny states calmly, if not still with a tinge of annoyance. "And then you ignore me until my shields go away. I can feel a difference when it happens, you know. In my mind, there's a difference. And you - it's like I was invisible when they were up. I'm not invisible, Edward!"

The thought of being invisible hurts though. While there aren't tears in her eyes, it did look as if it would be only a matter of time until they did appear.

"You are not being ignored if I simply choose to look at something else while talking to you," Edward said with a small shake of his head. "And you asked me for my opinions on the holiday."

Jenny shakes her head. That isn't it.

"You weren't looking at something else. That would still mean paying attention to the person you're talking to. It didn't even seem like you were doing that!"

Edward frowned, eye darkening. "And are you reading my mind, that somehow you are positive that I had decided you just didn't exist for that minute?"

"No," Jenny grumbles.

But now she's sorely tempted to. All she has to do is grab his hand and concentrate.

"Then stop assuming."

"Then don't ignore me!"

"I didn't but you're starting to give it merit," he said with a scowl.

Her arms cross over her chest.

"You've been grumpy all night."

Edward was staring at her. What was wrong with her? Even with her mind open she felt all edges today.

"I'm hardly the only one."

Jenny looked doubtfully at him in return. She raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah?"

Edward just stares at her, eyebrows arching subtly.

At least, that's roughly the shape Jenny's mouth forms when she puts his words and actions together.

"I am not!"

Edward looked amused, reluctantly. "Shall we call you antagonistic and oversensitive instead?"

Jenny wrinkles her nose.

Clearly, that's a no.

She was so young. Tiresomely.

"How have you been since we last spoke?"

That... that isn't a question Jenny wants to be asked. She'd actually be happier arguing. Because the moment he does ask, her shields go back up so Edward can't hear any of her thoughts.

"Fine," she lies. "Been having lots of fun spending time in Milliways. I was away too long."

Edwards expression was calm, even as he began to assume what the opening and closing meant, since she used it only against him both times now.

"You should enjoy yourself then."

"I am," she insists a little too strongly.

Reading is fun, as is learning everything she can get her hands on. So's spending time with Bart - that's a given. She has been enjoying herself.

Except during those hours in the night where everyone else is asleep and she's still awake.

"I am!"

It's the added enthusiasm, which makes him frown slightly.

Like she's trying to convince him and herself.

She notices the frown and tilts her head a little more.

"What?"

Edward's frown didn't lift, but he cocked his head.

"I was wondering what was wrong."
