Artemis survived Mardi Gras mostly by staying seated the whole evening.

At least on TLaPD, The Powers That Be saw fit to give her actual pants. The blouse is a little lower cut than she'd like, but the pistols tucked in her sash may be the Landlord's idea of compensation.

Now all she needs is some ~~whiskey~~ rum.

A Pirate King dances up to her and swings her about, he has grace style and his own musical accompaniment.

Artemis is twirling before she knows quite what she's doing; it certainly beats falling over. It doesn't take more than a moment for her to be laughing, though.

"Why, hello!"

"Hello, you beautiful pirate. May I kiss you?"

She turns a rather florescent shade of pink.

"On the cheek, good sir, is all I can allow."

He caresses her check with great affection before giving it a glorious kiss and then dipping her,

"Why is that, my dear?"

Artemis reminds herself that she's outgrown that whole 'turn men into deer and RUN AWAY' phase in her life.

"Because I am a virgin goddess, sir, and I will not be forsworn."

The Pirate King almost drops her and the disappointment across his face is great but he does stand her up again and bow,

"Will you join me for a drink then?"

She sketches a curtsy.

"How could I refuse such a kind request from such a respectful gentleman?"

"I'm honored, thank you."

"I would be honored in turn if you'd select our drinks."

"Rum is appropriate for today."

"Then rum it shall be."

She passes the order on to a waitrat, who scurries off to fill it.

"I am the Pirate King, fair lady."

The music swells in the background.

The music is very dramatic; Artemis can't help but be impressed.

"Your Highness."

She nods her head deeply. "I myself am Artemis, daughter of Zeus and Leto, sister to Apollo--and very pleased to make your acquaintance.

He bows once more to her,

"I'm honored to meet you, fair Artemis."

The waitrat returns with their glasses of rum; Artemis lifts hers in a toast.

"To charming new acquaintances."

"And new pirates."

He clinks his glass with hers and grins.

After downing a mouthful of rum, she asks,

"How long has your illustrious majesty been...your illustrious majesty?"

"Avast, matey! Be ye Drake's woman, or art ye colors more of the French-ey type?"

There is an 8-year-old waving her plastic hook-hand at you, Artemis.

This is an Artemis who looks suitably a'feared of said hook hand.

"I'll be having naught to do with those blasted Frogs. I pillage in the Queen's name--and me own, o' course."

"Cool! I mean - ARR!"

When all else fails, go for the gutteral.

"Yarr!" Artemis concurs.

"And what fine young pirate might I have the pleasure of meeting?"

"Ye be facin' the dread Captain Lilo, Scourge of the Peaceful Pacific, She of a Thousand Bloodied Battles! I'll cut your parrot, yarr!"

Lilo waves her hook around enthusiastically before leaning in for a whisper. "I don't really mean I'll cut your parrot. I have to say that because it's Pirate Day."

"Gotcha," Artemis whispers back. "Besides, I don't have a parrot."

She clears her throat before launching back into Piratical Speech. "But if I did have a parrot, I'd swash your buckle over all Seven Seas before I'd let you harm a feather atop his dear little head!"

Melpomene should have guessed by the sharp face, but it takes a close-up for her to realize the identity of the girl with the pantaloons. So, she sits nearby, and delivers:

"Ahoy."

"Well, shiver my timbers and all the rest of that pirate talk."

She pulls up a chair of her own.

"Mel! It's been too damn long."

It's really an opening she can't resist:

"How be ye, Arrrrtemis?"

Artemis promptly cracks up.

"I be verrrry well, fair lady. And how might you be?"

"Excellent," she says, "all things considered."

"You been coming here long?"

"Off and on."

She gets out a cigarette.

Artemis pats down her pockets--a little surprised that these pants have pockets--and comes up with a book of matches, which she hands over.

"I've been in and out for about...nine months? I think?"

"Thanks." Melpomene lights up, shaking out the match.

"What brought you here?"

"Honestly? I was expecting to walk onto my porch."

"Well." She laughs. "This is as good a place as any, to get a view." She gestures out the window.

"Absolutely. And definitely worth a few wacky costume changes as the price of admission."

"Certainly." Her eyebrow quirks. "I seem to have escaped unscathed... this time."

Artemis grins.

"Lucky you. Although at least I look better than I did at Mardi Gras."

"I wasn't here. I'll take your word for it, though."

"I didn't have much in the way of pants," is all she says, before looking for a waitrat to take her drink order.

"Sounds hot," Melpomene deadpans.

"Dead sexy," she replies in a matching tone.
