neverbelievedintheend: Idris Elba with his right side turned to the camera, wearing a blue greatcoat, flanked by soldiers (surrounded by soldiers)

Size-wise, rad-wise, it was only a Category III. Speed-wise, the kaiju they dubbed 'Taurax' was a match for any Cat IV Pentecost's ever seen, and Mindanao took a hell of a beating from the beast.

There's going to be reveling in the streets of a dozen Australian cities tonight, just as much as there will be in what's left of Mindanao. It was the Hansens, at the controls of Striker Eureka, who caught up with Taurax and put it down for good.

Stacker wasn't there to oversee the operation. He watched, though. The Shatterdomes are all connected, and he's in command of the one in Lima, and when the Breach spat out its latest abomination every single one of the Dome commanders woke and made ready, just in case. The others are probably going back to sleep now. Stacker...

Well, it took too long even with the fastest Jaeger in the Corps. Not by Stacker's standards. He knows what's involved. By the standards of the bureaucrats who sit in their inland offices, who overlook the Atlantic if they overlook any ocean at all. By the standards of safe men who're looking for an excuse to hide.

They have to do better next time. Every time.

Stacker Pentecost needs time to go over everything that happened today. If there's any way to improve anything at all about the Jaegers he has at his disposal, he needs the chance to see it and figure out how to make it happen, and he can't do that in Lima without his responsibilities interrupting him. Maybe here he'll have that chance.

God help you if you spill anything on the documents he's spread out over his table.

It's a bright, summer day at Milliways, and there is a little girl, about ten years old, sitting out on the wide stretch of grass leading down towards the lake. She has something small held in her hands, and seems to be concentrating very hard as she periodically opens and closes her hands around it.

[oom: "You can't just make people disappear!"]

It's been a while since Nicholas has seen this place. A lot has happened. He split up with his girlfriend (she kicked him out) (not that he'll ever admit it), got transferred to nowhere, Gloucestershire (Sandford), got shot, stabbed, beaten up, and exploded, and oh yeah, uncovered a secret death cult of pensioners that's been killing off people for having ugly lawns and bad penmanship for almost twenty years (Ben Fletcher, as it happened, really did fall on his own pitchfork. The man was just terribly clumsy and unfortunate).

Something else that's happened, in the last eight months, Nicholas Angel has been promoted three times. For the last six of those, he's been acting Chief Inspector for the Sandford Constabulary. Acting, because there's something a bit dodgy about being promoted directly from Sergeant to Chief Inspector. His six months as an inspector are officially over, and as of this morning, he's got three pips on his epaulettes.

With shift over, the plan is to celebrate down the pub, but it seems Milliways caught him out before he even had a chance to change out of his uniform (well. What bits of it he wore today. There's really not much point in wearing his stab vest around the village now that all of the particularly stabby residents have been arrested. And Danny was right — the neck tie with the short-sleeved uniform does look a bit daft. Open collar, it is).

Nicholas sighs when he sees the bar before him. It always has had a way of catching him completely off his guard like this. He doesn't want to get drunk (not until he gets to the pub, anyway), but yeah, all right. He'll have one. He orders a pint and settles in at the bar, very quietly pleased with himself despite his initial relcutance for any promotions at all. This isn't the CID track he'd been hoping for, but really... he thinks it might actually be a little better.
death_gone_mad: Amascut's younger Keli Raven cover, strawberry blonde (young Keli Raven)

A young thief bounds in the front door. Her face might be familiar but her strawberry blonde hair is not.

"Hey Katrine, guess how much gold I convinced Lord William to gift me today! I didn't even have to threaten him; I just looked at him funny," she says with a laugh.

She freezes when she realizes she's not were she expected to be and at the last place she wanted to to visit.

Her mind races, trying to come up with a reason why she suddenly looks so young and so blonde. She's not Keli Raven here, she's Sarah Black. But the front door plays tricks with timelines, doesn't it? Yes, that's right. This is Sarah's first time here, and that's that.

Amascut lets Keli's instincts and personality take over again, and she makes a swift grab for the knife at her hip. Stopping short of brandishing it, she asks the room at large, "What is this? Where am I?"

It is not a confused and frightened question, it is a confused and demanding question. A badass like Sarah Black must have been a badass as a teenager, so Keli Raven can play her acceptably, for now.

Shoot, now she is going to have to come up with a backstory for Sarah.

Joshua's been in the bar for a while, papers spread around him. However, recently he has been joined by a girl with long blonde hair and a smirky-confused expression.

"Why does a repository need protecting?"

"Huh?"

Valentine points at his t-minus sitting on the table. "Repository Protector."

"Well, it's got a lot of important stuff...."

"Ah. Flaily and repository. You must be Claudia's brother."

"Is it that obvious?"

"Yes."

Joshua Donovan and Valentine Wiggin in the bar, ladies and gents, talking up a storm.

Also: repositoryProtector and fawkesianPundit are signed on.
