It's cold out -- some would say too cold to swim, and yet swimming is exactly what Yamato's doing.

He's not immediately noticeable at a glance. Just the occasional bob of a blond head up above the surface, before he dips down under the water again. Get closer, and the movement of the water is more visible, as he alternates between doing laps, cutting through the water like a shark, and lazily drifting.

He certainly doesn't seem averse to people bothering him, and if he is, well, he has to get out of the water eventually. If nothing else, eventually it's going to be cold to continue.

Wei Wuxian was given a notice this morning when he tried to order his morning congee.

"No it is not," He huffed at the Bar, gesturing at the wood with the piece of cantalope he'd been given instead. "I'd know if it was the New Year, I..."

He blinks at he calendar that's appeared in front of him.

"Well."

He takes at the undecorated bar, and grimaces.

"Shit."

A few hours later, the bar is... decidedly different. Wei Wuxian has rallied the rat crew to hang red decorations everywhere - lanterns cast a golden glow, and there are couplets on every door (in Chinese, but he figures he's allowed). There's a surprise outside as well (as he's pretty sure that fireworks aren't really an inside event).

It’s the New Year under the ancient system, which Japan observed until roughly a century and a half ago, and Seimei still does. There are other people in the Milliways who celebrate it as well, but whether it is that time of year back home, or the Year of the Tiger, is uncertain.

No matter. Seimei has commandeered a booth, where he has a lot of stiff high-quality origami paper, most of it red. He has folded a number of little origami tigers, some of which are stalking back and forth or lounging like regal housecats with their tails twitching. He also has a frame on which he has hung paper amulets from various shrines and temples around Kyoto - since refreshing the household paper amulets was once a New Year’s tradition.

Seimei also has boxes of moon cakes under the table. This is a Chinese tradition, not a Japanese one, but the old seven-herb soup is a tradition he is not sorry to leave behind.
