The door opens to admit one tired warrior and commando. Tanya blinks at startles some at the sudden presence of Milliways, since it caught her shoe-less, in boxers and a tank top.

Worse, startled also means she allowed the door to close by accident, and now it refuses to open.

"Yes, I know I need some rest, but you could let me get dressed first." She speaks to no-one in particular, giving the door a last rattle for good measure and grumbling.

If there is someone controlling it, such person has a weird sense of humor.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Guppy says. "If it makes you feel better, I'm not generally more wary of you than I would be of someone I knew equally well. Of course I'm a little wary of most people, it's in my nature."

"It is different. I was a prisoner, lots of people expect me to be a traitor now... a mole... a 'sleeper agent'..." Tanya sighs.

"And I guess just telling them your not didn't work?"

"The logic is that a traitor would not confess." Telling them she is not a double agent or something really does not work.

"I'm sorry, I have no idea how I'd approach that"

"You don't have to. It is not your fault." She nods.

"Just... Milliways is my last source of any socialization."

"Well things are better for you here, right? You've got me, and AndrAIa."

"Yes, some." Tanya even smiles a bit. "I would not have made it without Andy... I would be a drooling wreck probably."

"Well I'm very glad you're not." Guppy says. "I can understand that, I really can."

She raises a brow at Guppy. "You can?"

Forgive her if she sounds a tad disbelieving: there are things the young woman did not mention that contributed to the mess she was.

Guppy hesitates, then says.

"I had a breakdown about three years ago. I still suffer from the effects of post traumatic stress disorder. I wouldn't say that it was as bad as what you went through, I just wanted to say that I understand what it is to break."

She could say something. Many things, actually.

But the woman decides none of them really matter right now, and she just nods.

"Sorry." Guppy says, going red; it wasn't the time to talk about his own problems.

"Don't worry. I am not the easiest people to have around." Two years of war took a heavy toll on her.

"No, you did nothing wrong." Guppy says quietly with a smile, rocking his son. "Don't knock your company."

"Sometimes I don't recognize myself anymore, doc. Almost all I have left back home is the War. When it ends, win or lose... what I will do?"

Tanya shakes head. "It makes me upset, and I end making people uncomfortable."

"You'll survive and evolve." Guppy says. "What we are changes all the time. What did you do before the war?"

He moves slightly closer and adds: "If you like, he can hold your finger. It's kinda sweet."

"I was nearly finishing college... Architecture and Engineering." An embarrassed smile. "I wanted to build things, now I use what I learned to destroy things."

She moves her hand closer to the baby, hesitantly.

"All the more chance to rebuild after a war." Guppy says, taking her hand over to the baby's and letting his son grip her fingers.

There is silence now.

Really, what she can say, with a baby holding her fingers and reminding her exactly why she decided to stay and fight when people were running?

Tanya is quiet for a good while, until a smile comes up on her face. "Yes. Rebuild."

"It's a great opportunity for new development."

Guppy watches them, smiling.

And she just nods, quiet again for a bit.

...

...

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." Guppy says, as Alexander uses his other hand to suck his thumb.

She lets out a low sigh, closing eyes, before talking to Guppy again. "It is good, to be reminded of why I decided to stay and fight, instead of running."

"Babies do that." Guppy says. "They remind us to live."
