Demeter has spent many of the past days in the infirmary watching over Carlotta and she's taking a small break over by the fire.

Her legs are curled up under her and she's staring into the fire, thinking about what Kore was like when she was that young though her hair was never quite that curly.

He sighs, and nods quietly.

"I may never assume that I am used to all that needs to be faced," he says.

"I know, Teja." She kisses his cheek.

"The challenge will never end," Teja says, quietly.

"No, but you will find ways to face it."

"I know, and I will," Teja says. "I need not be glad of it, though."

"Oh no, but you'll find your way."

"One surprise at a time," Teja says, with a small smile.

"Yes and together with Charlie."

"Ahhhh," Teja says. "Charlie!"

He smiles his brightest, rarest smile.

Demeter laughs and hugs him.

"I love him!" Teja says, quietly. "There is no good reason for it; and maybe, it needs no reason! No justification!"

"Exactly, I'm so glad for you both."

"We are getting ever closer," Teja says. "Slowly and gently. We used the cat-shapes Yrael had made for me, fell asleep by the forge-fire, and woke again, in man-shape again, curled up, with two cats on top of us: - that was a good moment."

"It sounds like true contentment to me."

Teja nods.

"It was," he says.

"I'm so glad that you've both found it."

"It is good to discover another that slowly, thoroughly, with nothing to reach," Teja says.

Pause.

"Would you still take us through your door to some place in Tuscany?" he then asks. "It would be good, now, to spend some days alone together, in a place that is home to neither."

"Of course I would. If you wish I could arrange for you both to stay at a farmhouse unless you'd rather be in town."

"Wherever the least questions would be raised," Teja says. "We might maybe find a way to go to a town, and do town things? I know not if Charlie is able to drive a car, or if they no longer exist in his time. I would attempt that which they call a motorcycle, as it is not that different from my speeder bike; but I would rather not make a fatal mistake with my Charlie riding pillion; he is alive still, and can die."

Pause.

"No questions about us being lovers; and no questions about us having two rooms, despite that. Not questions about us being lovers, having two rooms, and maybe using only one in one night or another."
