Gert and Old Lace are eating dinner at a table - well, Gert is at the table, OL is eating raw liver from a bucket on the floor. Gert herself is eating miso ramen  and sipping green tea.

They are not adverse to company.

Chase reckons the signs are good that she isn't going to question him on his secret source of beer. He's has been keeping his eye out for suspicious inquiries ever since his encounters.

"That looks almost as good as OL's meal looks gross." he says, putting his feet on the table.

She pushes his feet off the table. They came all together too close to her tea.

"Watch the tea, bub," she tells him.

"Your tea was totally safe." Chase says, putting his feet on Old Lace instead.

Now that does distract OL. She stands up, causing Chase's legs to slide off her and gives him a pointed look which pretty much says, in a long siuffering kind of way, 'if Gert didn't love you, you'd have been dinner long ago.'

Gert rolls her eyes.

"Seriously, must you bug her while she eats?"

Chase removes his feet from the vicinity.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry, I was just kidding." He gives Old Lace another scritch and leaves her alone.

Gert playfully punches his arm.

"She loves you really. Just don't annoy her at dinner time. You know what she's like about her food."

"Yeah, might eat my stinky foot." Chase says, looking as though he's about to take his shoes off but thinking better of it.

"Not likely. Even OL has more sense than to eat that thing. How would she know where it's been?"

"Heh, don't blame her." Chase says. "They kind of itch at the moment, are they meant to do that?"

"Your feet? It might help if you changed your socks a bit more regularly."

"True."

Beat.

"But doesn't washing wear them out faster?"

"Faster than what? Our relationship?"

She's kidding of course.

"Faster than wearing them twice."

Beat. Little self conscious pang.

"Um, does it bother you?"

"Only when I can smell you."

Which, okay, she'll be honest, doesn't happen as often as one would think.

Chase goes a bit quiet and mumbles, "Sorry".

"Hey it's not like you smell like a sewer or anything. Just occasionally feet," she says smiling, trying to lighten the mood.

"Well, er, I'll try not to, okay?"
