Belar got some news from the security office yesterday, and hoo nelly is he not pleased. His Mongols were told very firmly that he was going to be away for a little while, because he didn't want to cause any issues in their immediate vicinity; he's in the Bar now with his sign up.

"I'll deal with that when it happens," says Belar. "This isn't their private playground. They have to learn to play nice with the other kids, or they're gonna have to go where they're actually welcome."

"Good to know you are on the job about this." It calms Knox just a little about the Old Firm. "Aside from the gruesome twosome, how goes it?"

"Oh, other than that things are just peachy," Belar says. "Stuff back home's going okay, and nobody here's reported new nightmares, either."

"Nightmares? Like we had last year with the self inflicted wounds?" He'll never forget calming Allie Keyes after one of those nights.

"No wounds. Just severe nightmares, one individual at a time, and a common figure in most of them. I haven't heard anything new in a week or so. Still keeping an eye out there."

"It's always something." He thinks for a moment. "Raps said she had a few nightmares, but she says that when you're a few hundred years old, there's a lot of past living to process. And she didn't mention anything odd." She also said she was having trouble sleeping because he wasn't there, so he just assumes it's what it sounds like.

"Did she mention anything about a man with brown hair, or any of the nightmares being bad memories of hers?" Belar asks. "That was one of the common things."

"Nothing about a man with brown hair. But yeah, bad memories. Like I said, though, she didn't think there was anything out of the ordinary.

"I think," he says with a little concern, "that when you lose everything you have and have to survive a war and then live in hiding for decades, maybe you have nightmares. But I'll ask if there was a brown haired man anyway." If she says she's fine, he won't push too hard. He trusts her to be honest.

Belar nods. "Thanks, dude. I appreciate it."

"Hey, do gods dream?" Might as well ask, since it's not the kind of question he gets to ask at home.

"When we sleep," says Belar. "Most of us don't sleep often. Issa doesn't count, he's weird."

"From what you tell me, your family is weird in general. At least compared to the usual image of gods." And Demeter certainly fits that usual image, since she's a bit unearthly and a bit stately. "So you sleep once a century or something?"

"Issa's the Snake God, not to mention god of poisons, drugs, and chemicals in general," Belar says. "When we all had to pull out to prevent Torak from bringing his war to the entire world again, Issa didn't go non-physical. He picked out a high priestess, said her word was his law, and went into hibernation for a couple thousand years. He's always been like that. The rest of us... well, Torak was in a coma for a couple of centuries. Mara napped once in a while to set an example for his people. Most of the rest of us don't really bother."

"That must get dull, though. All those late night talk shows and old movies that no one likes and infomercials." He's only half-serious.

Belar shrugs. "That's what visiting your people's dreams is for," he says. "Assuming they're open to it, and the Alorns usually were. Especially the female Alorns." There's a pause. "Particularly the blonde ones."

"Ahhhh." He's not really sure that he wants to visit other people's dreams, but then he's not a god. And he certainly gets the appeal of sleeping blondes' not so sleepy thoughts.

"So does that mean when there are things invading people's dreams, you can peek in?"

"Under certain circumstances," says Belar. "Mostly just my own people's dreams. There are rules about that for me and my brothers."

"That's good. No offense, but part of me is less then thrilled that anyone could do that, even if there was a need."
