Maybe she notes a young woman scribbling furiously in a notebook by the fire? Oh and now she's just erased, with extreme prejudice, what she was scribbling.

Obviously a frustrated genius at work.

Val's too focused to notice the slight weight of the owl on her chair. She begins another mathematical formula in her notebook, pausing occasionally to make odd notes in the margins; things like "falling air", "light", "bird feathers" and "cheetah fur". None of which make any sense compared to the equations.

Val flips the page and draws two columns. She writes "Things with speed" and "things which fly" as headers. She then shakes her head and stretches, hopefully not coming too close to the owl she still has no idea is on her chair.
