"Well, there's not a lot of other smells to get in the way." But he looks pleased with himself. "Is that what you're god of? Making things?"

"In the broadest sense, wisdom," she responds.

"Artistry, knowledge, chastity, and sometimes war. I am Athena."

"I'm Enzo. What's chastity?"

What? The word has never come up.

"Um, the practice of abstinence?"

"Dunno that one either."

...

"Not having sex?"

"Ohhhhhh."

He blushes slightly, a darker jade green. It's quite pretty, really.

Then he looks puzzled. "They need a god for that?"

Athena shrugs slightly.

"I protect the virgins. And, anyhow, basically everything is delegated to one god or another."

Enzo shakes his head. "I don't get religion. Sorry."

Athena shrugs.

"Some tell me it's overrated. So where're you in from?"

"Cyberspace. Do you know computers?"

"Yes. Yes I do."

He nods in mild relief. "Well, that's where I'm from. I'm a data sprite."

"Oh!"

Athena's eyes widen slightly.

"Your function?"

Enzo beams, impressed: she knows the lingo!

"Guardian cadet. To mend and defend. Antivirus, system repair, Game defence, that kind of thing."

Athena's lips quirk.

"To mend and defend," she repeats.

"The most important part."

Enzo nods, chest swelling a bit. "It's a really good function."

"Difficult, too, I imagine."

Enzo nods vigorously. "There's six years of training before I'm a full Guardian. I'm most of the way through my second."
