[OOM: One commission, two gifts and an unexpected visitor. Small warning for a bit of blood and gore.]

Weyland returns to the bar sometime later, when he has recovered enough to appear calm again, and he carries the gifts he has made up to the bar. It looks like it's going to be another Atlantean night.

He takes a seat at the bar, and waits. There's one person in particular he's waiting for and several others he'd be very happy to see, but really any distraction would be welcome.

He nods once. "I was a prince, back when I was young, and helped my father with his duties of protecting the borders--but he sent me away to be apprenticed. If one has a talent, it should be nurtured."

"There's no one else to be the Abhorsen in Waiting. Its what I have to do, but I do have a workroom at home so when I have the time I can make things."

"There was no one else to take up my role either," he says with a wry, quiet chuckle, "but when one has a calling, it cannot be denied. And that was mine."

"I'm not sure its even a calling."

[mechanicalswans]

"For me it was," he says. "But more than a calling--utterly inseparable from the rest of my being. I do not exist without forgework, and to some extent, forgework does not exist without me."

"I think I understand. It was never really a choice for you."

[mechanicalswans]

"Do your people believe in destiny?" he asks. "Mine do--much more than most other peoples, it seems. We know the world's going to end, we know who will kill whom and how in the final battle, but no one does anything to prevent it. They can't. It's fate."

He takes a drag on his cigarette. "And that's how it is with me and crafting."

"I'm not sure. I think some people believe more than others. I know what my fate is and so that's just how it is."

[mechanicalswans]

"Embrace it," he says. "Many people never know what theirs is, or think they can fight it somehow, but fighting it, if your world allows for trying, just makes it that much worse when it comes. I don't know if the fates give bonus points during life for enthusiasm, such as it is, but they say in the final judgment, a man's outlook counts just as much as his deeds."

"Yes, its better that way. Thank you."

Its not an answer he likes but Sameth knows that he should just accept that he's going to be Abhorsen and not let it worry at him.

"You're more than welcome, lad," he says, and sips his wine contemplatively.

Ah, the Norse view of destiny.
