[OOM: One commission, two gifts and an unexpected visitor. Small warning for a bit of blood and gore.]

Weyland returns to the bar sometime later, when he has recovered enough to appear calm again, and he carries the gifts he has made up to the bar. It looks like it's going to be another Atlantean night.

He takes a seat at the bar, and waits. There's one person in particular he's waiting for and several others he'd be very happy to see, but really any distraction would be welcome.

Coreen is curled up on the couch, doing some embroidery work, and occasionally tickling her son in his basket, and feeding them both fruit.

She looks up, though...the woodsmoke is now only associated with one person for her.

"Hey, Weyland."

"Ah, there you are," he says, setting his wine glass down on the bar and motioning toward the nearby boxes. "The work you asked me to do is finished, along with those gifts I promised you. I hope you like them."

She gathers up her things and her baby before standing and walking over to the bar, and sitting Evan's basket next to her.

"Thank you," she says quietly, and gives him a slight hug.

He returns the hug, a bit awkwardly, and picks up one of the boxes--the only one of the three actually intended as a gift box. "This is the ring--I wanted to tell you about it, before I give it to you. It has some extra... features, you could say, that you didn't ask for but I thought would be useful."

She opens it, and looks it over. It's pretty much exactly what she imagined. It takes her a bit, but she even gets a few of the words in the poem out.

"Extra features, eh? What all does it do?"

"It cannot be lost," he says. "If he needs to take it off so it won't be caught on something, machinery perhaps, or so it will not be seen, it will instead fade into his flesh until it is safe for it to return. And it cannot be stolen--if someone else tries to take it from him, under any circumstances, it will disappear, and reappear with you. But you must not tell him that part, until it has happened once. You and he are the only ones who can wear it."

"So basically...once he puts it on...he's pretty much stuck with it."

She nods slowly, thinking. "Can I tell him the first part?"

It occurs to her that he may freak out if either scenario happened.

She twists the simple ring on her finger absently.

"Oh, he can take it off," he says, "but if he wants to take it off, it must be a conscious and deliberate action, not just taking it off for a moment for safekeeping. And you can tell him the first part, naturally--that much, it would be good for him to know."

Melpomene's there, in the corner, somewhat indistinguishable due to a haze of smoke.

He would know her anywhere--or at least in Milliways.

He gathers up his wine and his boxes and starts toward the corner, cautiously.

"It's been a while."

"Yes," she says with a small smile, pulling the end table with its ashtray and tequila around to be more accessible.

"Been traveling the world?"

[mechanicalswans]

"Mostly staying at home," he says, taking a seat, resting the boxes on his lap. "I had a guest for a while, but... you know how things go. Work has been slow."

She looks him over.

"Yeah."

And then: "I feel like I should be in a less familiar pose... given our feeble attempts at changing our routines."

"All we can do is try," he says. "And anyway, there's some comfort in routines. We shouldn't abandon them altogether."

He sips his wine. "I hope you have been well."

"As well as ever," she says cryptically.

[mechanicalswans]

"I would've hoped you'd be better than that," he says, "but at least it isn't worse."

He lights a cigarette. "I missed you."

Sameth is still rather tired after the strange day he had so nods at the man down the Bar as he gets a beer.

If Weyland has been in the forge recently, he'll probably recognize the feel of Sameth's magic.

That he does.

So he gets a polite nod in return. "Evening, lad."

They've never been introduced but Sameth sort of knows who he is,

"How are you doing, sir?"

[mechanicalswans]

"Well enough," he says, picking up his glass of wine. He takes a sip.

"And you? Keeping busy, I see."

[makesthings]

"Yes, sir, its restful and enjoyable work."

[mechanicalswans]

"That it is."

He knows he generally finds it relaxing, at any rate.

"Making anything interesting?"

[makesthings]

"I'm working on a mechanical frog to catch bugs for my mother when she's sleeping outside."

"You'd certainly have more than words to offer," she says, wryly.

"And, of course, there's the fact that my power seems to go away when I'm here. I'm sure you don't have that problem."

"No," he admits. "I am still as free to do my work here as I am anywhere else--still have that drive to create. But few customers."
