Without quite knowing how, or why, Olive has managed to find the bar again. She sits in a booth by the door--

(No, for your information she hasn't been watching the door whenever she comes here, ever since Chuck said "Ned's around, some days."

Or maybe she has. Whatever.)

-- Anyway, see the lonely heroine, yonder: sitting. sighing. Drinking a glass of lemonade, and looking generally desolate.

She smiles a little, still nervous at the metallic movements.

"Say... you a robot?"

If D0G could give her a 'well, DUH' look, he would. Instead, he just nods.

Well... better safe than sorry, as Olive always says.

"Gotcha." She gives him a quick thumbs-up in return. "Sorry, I'm just not used to... you know... robots in my space."

D0G shrugs. Even in his world, robots aren't terribly common, and self-aware robots are even less so.

He hunches over and turns his shoulder toward Olive so that she can (hopefully) read the name painted onto his chassis.

Olive squints at it.

"D... zero... G...?"

She blinks.

"You don't look much like a dog, I have to say."

Olive squints at the letters.

"D... zero... G... Dog?"

She pauses, looks up at him. "You don't look much like one, you know."

Wrrp BWAAAP! says D0G indignantly.

Olive jumps back.

"Just makin' observations!"

Wrp.

Ever seen a combat droid sulk? You have now.

It is a special experience, to be sure.

Olive isn't sure she actually understands robotic emotions, but she gives it a try:

"You're still quite handsome, for a robot who looks nothing like a dog."

Bwp? D0G looks back at her questioningly.

Although she turns her ear, she still doesn't understand.

"Sorry?"

D0G lets out something like a sigh, shaking his head. Some people just can't handle nonverbal communication.

Olive least of all.

"Guess I'll need to work on my nonverbal communication," she says.

D0G nods firmly. Got that right, sister.

"Well... I'm used to talking to dogs, but... not having them actually understand me."

After a moment of thinking about this, she adds: "At least, not in a way that I pick up on."

Woop? says D0G curiously. He doesn't interact with actual dogs very often.

"You know... I have a dog at home, I mean, not really have a dog, you know, but..."

She pauses. "Anyway, I talk to him. But I don't think he talks back."

D0G looks puzzled for a moment, then lets out a series of bwoops in a decent imitation of barking and howling. Isn't that how dogs talk?

"Not bad."

Mwrp oop! D0G looks very pleased with himself.

(Don't ask how a cycloptic, mouthless droid can look pleased with himself. He just does.)

Olive never asks these sorts of questions. (Well, maybe sometimes.)

Instead, she pats his arm.
