He's surprised, as he usually is, by how much faster time seems to move here than at home. It was quite mild when he was in for his last shift - sticking his head outside the back door tonight, he notices it's very definitely not mild anymore. It's only a few degrees about freezing in fact and that's why there can be only one special tonight.
Hot Chocolate with your choice of shot - Amaretto, Mint, Caramel, Hazelnut or Vanilla
He gets one for himself and wraps his hands around it as he takes his place behind the bar.
'Bar's open.'

Donovan smiles at the specials board, and the barkeep-of-the-day.
"I'd like mine with Amaretto!"
Hot drinks are good; hot drinks with alcohol even better.

Justin grins (as ever) and checks the guy out (as ever) as he heats the milk.
'Want froth with that?'

'There you go. I'm Justin Taylor, good to meet you.'
no subject
He takes a sip of the hot chocolate.
"Very nice. And nice to meet you, Justin. I'm Donovan. Donovan Reece."

Everyone's got one.

So, she's up and about.
And wearing a lot of red, gold and black that she found in her room in the bar.
"Hey," she says, imperiously, "you. Get me a pepper chocolate drink."
...did we mention she's not well?

'Uh...hi, Dinah.'
He sounds a but hurt.
no subject
"What did you call me?"
no subject
For a moment, he's not sure whether he's got the wrong person. He's heard of this happening here, where people look the same but are not.
But it really does look like her.
'Because...that's your name.'
Isn't it?

But he knows how to make it so that's OK.
'Sounds pretty gross though, you sure you want one?'

He laughs and sets about making the drink up.
'But give me time - I bet there's a few people around here who could do with it. I could make a fortune.'
It only takes a minute and there's one hot chocolate with a double coffee shot. And froth and sprinkles.
'There you go.'
no subject
"I think we met before but I forgot your name."
no subject
He doesn't appear fazed by Guppy's admission.
'I forget a lot of people I meet here, don't worry about it. How are you doing?'

Even though it probably won't calm down the baby taking turns at kicking her ribs and her bladder.
"Hot chocolate with Hazelnut would be great right now," she says.
It takes her a little longer this time to maneuver onto the stool.
no subject
He's quick about making it up and eyes her as he hands it over.
'How's it going, Mia?'
no subject
But hot chocolate is good and awesome painkiller for an aching back.
no subject
'And I'm glad I'll never have to. But you must be getting excited - as soon as Christmas is done, February will come really quickly.'
no subject
She takes a deep sip of hot cocoa.
"It's still really amazing, feeling him kick, even if he sometimes kicks at places that I don't want him to."
Beat.
"Do you want to feel?"

He comes around the bar immediately. He likes babies - there's enough of an age gap between him and his sister that he remembers how cute they are and how fascinating to watch grow.
'They don't know they're going to be grandparents yet?'
