Carlotta is in the main bar, with her school report.

She has to laugh, just a little, when she sees her French result. Because of a certain bet she has with a certain king in the forge.

She looks around for him; she'll try outside if he's not in.

"Not everyone who trains with the circus will end up an acrobat." Carlotta says, walking freely back and forth on her hands. "Some won't have the flexibility. So circus children are encouraged to try all sorts of things to find out what they're good at. Many will inherit their parents' trade, but many won't."

Flipping back over. "Which is why it's useless for me to practice tennis, when I could be practicing gymnastics. I started running a club for the first form to get the games mistress off my back."

"Well, I suppose that doing the best that you can is all that matters." said L, holding the bar door open for her.

[fiery_ring]

"No, it's not. But it's a good thing nevertheless."

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"Indeed."

[fiery_ring]

"Sometimes you have to know when your best isn't good enough."

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"I usually find that is." replies L, "Why do you feel that way?"

[fiery_ring]

"Everyone needs help sometimes. To assume you can do everything alone is arrogance."

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"But, trying your best is all one can ask from you."

[fiery_ring]

"No it isn't. Sometimes you have to learn to stand back and let someone else try, it's part of teamwork."

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"Well, I suppose we're going to have to agree to dissagree." propessed L.

[fiery_ring]

"You never work with a team?"

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"I work on a team every day. But, I also believe that it is the personal responsibility of each member to do their best each day. I also know that your best day may be different from your best tomorrow."

[fiery_ring]

"You don't play team sports, do you?"

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"No, I do not. I work on a team, but my only sport is tennis. And, I usually play on my own team."

[fiery_ring]

"If you have a lacrosse team, and everyone tries to score a goal with their shot, you lose the game. Sometimes you have to pass to someone who's closer."

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"I'm not saying 'don't share the limelight,' I'm just saying to always try your best."

[fiery_ring]

Carlotta gives it up.

"My school helps to bring out the best in people."

[l_is_ryuzaki]

L could sense her fustration, but why couldn't she just understand what he was saying? No matter.

"It sounds like you go to a good school."

[fiery_ring]

She couldn't understand why he didn't understand that she did understand what he was saying, she just didn't think it could be applied in every case. Sometimes your best isn't enough.

"I do." she says. "Finest in the kingdom, well, we say anyway."

"I too learned from a very wise man." said L, again thinking back to Watari in the Wammy House.

"You had a tutor?"

[l_is_ryuzaki]

"Indeed I did." said L. "But he was much more than a tutor. He was my teacher, and my friend, and somewhat of a father."

[fiery_ring]

"Everyone needs a father figure." Carlotta agrees.

[l_is_ryuzaki]

L nodded in agreement and took a sip of his coffee.
