As lovely as Okinawa is, there's a few things Dinah misses about her life in America. The biggest candidate is her family; her mother and her uncles, who write, but not often enough. It leaves a space for her to want to fill.

The other thing, she never thought she'd miss in February, but she finds she is, as That Holiday nears. As this is why there is now a sign on the notice board:#

Valentine's Bouquets

Romance, friendship, family, say it with flowers this year. Bouquets, arrangements and stems delivered to your loved ones this Valentines Day.

She takes a seat near the board, but she also leaves a collection of order forms and an envelope to gather them in.

"You must win a lot of yelling matches," thinking of those other things she could shatter. He also wonders, "If a silencing spell would work against it."

"I try not to get in yelling matches," Dinah points out. "That's a bit like taking a cannon to a boxing match."

Silencing spells hadn't occurred to her, and she can't think of a reason it wouldn't work, which raises a point. "How does one defend themselves against a silencing spell?"

"Er, I'd cast a shield to protect myself from it in a duel."

And then of course parry with another hex or spell.

"But I don't know if there's anything a Muggle could do. Not that I go out attacking Muggles with silencing spells. They're not supposed to see magic. If they do, they'd have to Oblivated and wouldn't remember it anyway."

Which isn't something Dinah approves of, even though she understands the need for sympathy and will use similar defenses later.

"Oh," she says, slightly disappointed that it's not something she can use. So she tries, "OK, so who do you cast one?"

"Silencio for the silencing. And Protego for the shield."

But without a wand, nothing happens. Wandless magic is not something Scorpius has the handle on.

"They're useful in duels. And, oh," he laughs, "there's this bird, I learned about it in Creatures, the Fwooper. They have to be sold with silencing charms because its song will drive anyone mad."

Dinah blinks, and laughs a little.

"OK, I'm wondering why anyone would sell them at all."

"They're really colorful?" Scorpius suggests with another shrug and laugh. "And their feathers are used for quills. I see girls in my class with them: pinks, greens, yellows."

She laughs again. "I guess people will do all sorts of crazy things for money and vanity.

"So..." back to this again. "How do you cast these spells? Just say the words?"

"I'd have to use my wand, but I could cast them wordlessly."

That he knows how to do.

Decently enough.

"Right," says Dinah, and allows herself a little smile. "OK, I could go up against someone with a wand."

"You'd shatter it, wouldn't you?"

To which Scorpius looks absolutely horrified about. Breaking a wizard's wand is a serious offense.

"I don't need to use my Cry to disarm someone," Dinah contradicts him. It's almost a matter of pride.

Fist fights are rare for this wizard. Though he has seen - and been a part of - one or two.

"So you'd, what, exactly? Fight hand-to-hand?"

He's also had a Howler for being a part of those said fist fights before - uncivilized was the term of that letter - but what else was he going to do? He didn't exactly have the chance to grab his wand and defend himself.

"Do you have training in that?"

"My mother's a Judoka," Dinah confirms, nodding. "So, yeah."

Never mind that she's about as good as her mother was on the top of her game, and has other disciplines to add to that.

"A Judoka?"

The tone of his voice and expression only mean one thing: He has no idea what that is.

"She practiced Judo," Dinah clarifies, and adds further, "a martial art. I'm pretty good, hand to hand."

Scorpius nods, impressed. Even with his little understanding of what Judo is.

"So how would you take a wand then?"

"It'd depend on how close they were," Dinah says. "But I figure anything that'll take a gun out will take a wand. Usually I'd target the wrist."

That would make sense.

"And if they weren't close?"

"Then I'd get close," Dinah says. "It's amazing how bad one's aim can get when the target is coming towards you really fast."

Scorpius laughs, "Alright, I can imagine that. My aim's really good though."

She grins, believing him at face value.

"Let's not get into a fight, then?"

Scorpius just laughs again. "Deal."
