It's gotten to the point where Annabelle has to do maintenance on her weapons and armor in shifts. At the moment, she's doing maintenance on the first batch in one of the booths downstairs. Feel free to boggle, inquire, or start a conversation.

Annabelle's eyebrow is still reading skeptical. "Mhm. I'm sure you do."

"They over react! I never would have coated the hallway in ice if I thought anyone was home! It was awesome for skating!"

He neglects to mention the curly slide out the window.

Annabelle chuckles at that. "Sure, you wouldn't. It was all a misunderstanding."

"Exactly! If I wanted to annoy them, I would have frozen their beds or encased all of their underwear in a block of ice!"

Both of which he has done, more than once.

"I see," she drawls. "Perhaps the name thing was in revenge for those annoyances?"

"Nah. I got the name pretty much as soon as the Professor recruited me. When he found me, I was in jail for my own protection from a lynch mob. I accidentally encased this jerk who was messing with me and my date in a block of ice. My powers were still pretty new then, and I didn't have a lot of control. The towns people kind of freaked out."

He makes it sound like it wasn't that big a deal, but it changed his life, forever.

"Stress does seem to have that effect on people, especially when they're new to their abilities," Annabelle says with a nod.

"I had one poor young man accidentally set my jacket on fire when he got nervous," she adds with a chuckle.

"Yikes. I have a friend who can't control the lasers that shoot from his eyes. That's gotta suck."

"Lasers?" Annabelle asks surprised. "Oh, he got the hang of it eventually," she reassures him.

"He'll tell you they're not lasers, they're energy projections or optic blasts, but they're TOTALLY lasers."

Annabelle snorts, "Potato, Potatoh," she replies with a grin.

"Totally. Anyway, there's five of us, and we got to school and train and fight together. No one knows that Gifted Youngsters means Mutant."

He cringes slightly.

"Who still uses the word Youngsters? I'm the youngest out of all of us, and I don't think I'm a youngster."

"A good word to use when you want people to look the other way," Annabelle says with a smile. "Sound stodgy and respectable, and most people will never give it another thought."

"Especially when the headmaster is a telepath," he agrees.

It makes sense, though.

"Most people just think it's some sort of super exclusive college."

"Hiding in plain sight," Annabelle says with a grin. "I like that."

"The Professor is good at that. He made everyone in my town forget I was a mutant, so I can even visit home when I want to. I don't know if I like that he changes people's thoughts without their permission, but I can't really complain if it keeps them from trying to kill me."

Annabelle winces at the mention of changing people's thoughts. "That's a slippery slope," she says with a frown. "Still..."

"Yeah, I get it. Why didn't he just change their minds BEFORE a lynch mob tried to kill me, right? If you're going to go that far, why not all make them think I was totally justified in defending myself, or make them love mutants? It's all free will being taken away, right?"

He is capable of deep thought, if he stops long enough to ponder things.

"But the guy's usually good about only doing it in emergencies, or else asking permission."

Annabelle nods. "It's another weapon, just like a knife or a gun. You have to use it responsibly."

"Which is why I wasn't given THAT mutant power. Seriously, I don't know if the world would survive. I got one that I can actually work with and be good at."

"I'm glad," Annabelle says with a smile.

"Would you be interested in lending a hand in someone else's world?" It's a bit of an abrupt subject change, but there you go.

"I guess I'd have to know the details, first. I'm always willing to lend a hand to the good guys."

Annabelle nods. "A friend of mine's world is in the Middle of World War 3, and they need people to get into a Soviet Missile base and disable it."

"Damn. I could at least provide cover, even if I have no clue how to disable missles."

"There are people who know how to disable the missiles, what they really need is backup," Annabelle explains.
