Guppy is enjoying not having to watch his back, and is looking refreshed and relaxed today. No Urquhart to bother him. No nasty administrator at work. He's even finished his paperwork.

He's now sitting with Carlotta, who was also at a loose end, playing what appears to be a Milliways version of Guess Who. Or so it would sound from the questions.

Carlotta peers at her game board for a moment, then asks.

"Are you human or human-like in appearance?"

"No."

Carlotta flicks down some of the little pictures.

Anyone else want to play? They're close to the end of the game.

"I was also surprised at how easily I was able to find this place again," Data says. "I do not find that anamolies like inter-dimensional rifts are usually so easy to control."

"No, it's rather convenient most of the time, isn't it?"

Data nods. "This is only the second time I have been here. I hope that getting here will remain as convenient a process as it has been so far.

"Have you ever been Bound?"

"Yes, four or five times."

"From what I have heard, that is a most unpleasant experience."

"It depends how you cope with it. It was horrible the first time, but subsequent times I got used to it."

"How did you choose to cope with it?"

"Keep yourself occupied." Guppy advises.

Data nods.

"Do you know of any other dangers here in Milliways that I should be aware of?"

"Yeah, watch out for free food. Unless it's at Life Support."

"Why?" Data asks, leaning forward.

"Sometimes people leave out joke or magic food." Guppy says. "But Life Support has only safe food; the organisers provide it to ensure that."

Data nods.

"On a similar subject, I have heard that the first drink from Bar is free, which implies that all subsequent drinks come at a price. The society which I am from no longer uses money, and as a result, I have no currency in my possession. Is there any other way in which I would be able to pay for anything that I might require?"

"Are you Bound?"

"No, I am not," Data answers. "Though I suppose that it could possibly happen in the future, and it would be beneficial to make sure that I am prepared.

"Perhaps 'require' was a poor choice of words, since I can retrieve things from my own reality if I need them. But I thought that there might be things that would be more convenient to get from Bar."

"When you're Bound there's a fund." Guppy says. "Otherwise there are various ways - providing services, working behind the bar, and so on."

"What sort of services?" Data asks.

"Well it depends on what skills you have."

"Do you perform any services here in Milliways?" Data asks, curious.

"Yes, I'm a doctor and perform medical work here. I only get expenses though, enough to cover what I need when I work here. For example if I have to stay overnight looking after someone. Other than that it's voluntary."

Data looks a little impressed.

"So you enjoy your work, then."

"Oh yes." Guppy says. "It's tiring at times though."

"That is understandable," Data says with a nod, then thinks of something. "You must encounter some interesting problems here in Milliways."

"Definitely that, yes. Not all my patients are human here for a start."

"I would be interested to hear some examples," Data says, folding his hands on the table and leaning forward.
