As soon as the shower had started running in the motel's bathroom, Sam had seized his chance. He yelled something indistinct about lunch, grabbed his laptop and messenger bag, and headed straight for Milliways without waiting for Dean to answer.
Now he's sitting at a booth, the laptop open in front of him, staring at something on the screen.
(From time to time he stares at a note, instead.)
Either way, it doesn't look like he's making much progress.
[ooc: open until it scrolls, with a break at 9 MT for tonight's episode of Supernatural.]

She hesitates another few seconds, then sits down across from him.
"I am coaching baseball."
no subject
"Baseball? Coaching? Really?"
no subject
She tilts her head a little, studying Sam.
Then --
"Tomas asked."
no subject
He gives her a quick grin.
"Better not tell your landlord."
no subject
"I do not understand."
Beat.
"He does not play baseball."

X is quiet for a second.
"I would not mind. He knows a lot."

She hesitates fractionally.
"But it is not like fighting."
no subject
Quietly said, but then he smiles a little.
"Probably more fun, though, right?"
no subject
"I am very good at fighting."
Which is to say 'more fun' is probably not the right term.
no subject
"Just takes practice."
Beat.
"Wait. So if you're not that good at it, why did Tomas ask you to coach?"
no subject
She falls silent for a second, considering.
Then --
"I do not know."
no subject
Beat.
"Hey, when you're seven, who knows."
no subject
"You remember being seven?"
no subject

Beat.
"I do not think Tomas is like me. Then."

no subject
"It has been useful. The training."
That is what is relevant.
no subject
He smiles.
"Maybe the baseball will be, too."
no subject
"The plumbing will be more useful."
Beat.
"And the roofing."
no subject
"... er, not to misuse a metaphor, but did that just come from left field or am I missing something?"
no subject
"I am learning to do that now, too."
Beat.
"Sometimes it is easier than baseball."
no subject
"Ohhh." He shakes his head. "I wouldn't know, honestly. I never really learned that sort of thing."
They'd never stayed in one place long enough for him to have the need.
no subject
"The plumbing would be difficult. You are very big. And the spaces are usually small."
