"No, see--" Duo waves his spoon at River for emphasis, and then hastily lowers it before ice cream drips onto the couch. "Real cherries are acceptable. Maraschino cherries are an abomination. It's an important distinction!"

River eats a sprinkle with her fingers, looking dubious. "It's a paradigmatic rewriting," she informs him. "Got extra sugar."

So, to sum up: River and Duo have a couch shared between them, a fairly epic ice cream sundae apiece, and a lot of precisely constructed paper airplanes strewn around them. (Some have physics equations written on them.) Come say hi!

[OOC: Two muns, two characters! Feel free to tag them together, or to arrange your timing so one of them just went back to the bar or something.]

Blink blink blink.

"...but I don't even-"

Wait.

Wait a minute.

"Who was I mean to again?"

"My friend Puck. You made him sigh and make a sad face. It's really not okay to tease someone like that."

She has learned, since her unfortunate summer dealing with the bullies in Haven, that being straightforward and unflinching is the way to go.

Oh. But he's sitting on the couch with River. Which probably means they are friends.

"I'm sorry I have to call out your friend, River. But he wasn't very nice."

And now, Puck has sunk to the level of lying to small children. It is a red letter day.

"Ingress. Look. Puck is my friend. Usually, anyway." This sounds reluctantly admitted, but is probably true.

"I don't know what he was telling you, but I don't go around trying to be mean to people."

She folds her arms across her chest. Now, who is she going to believe? Her dear friend Puck who always makes her laugh and who she's known for years and years or this stranger? Who, okay, doesn't really look the part of a bully, and is a friend of River's, but still. Maybe he's only been friends with her a short time. Post-being mean.

"Right," Ingress huffs. "Of course, you'd say that. River, has Duo been your friend a long time or a short time?"

She didn't know River knew Puck. What did that mean - 'he likes attention'? It certainly doesn't seem kind, but River's not mean to people for no reason.

No one likes Puck but her, it seems. And Havelock, of course.

(Although she's never seen her teacher and her friend in the same place together. So... surely Havelock likes Puck back? Oh, dear.)

Oh god. This Ingress girl is cute when she's angry. In a terrifying sort of way.

"I know you don't know me, or have any reason to believe me," Duo says. "But I don't actually lie. Especially not about important stuff."

Ingress has officially gone from mad to sad (with a side of confused).

River called Puck a dummy. She doesn't understand the bit about the friendship architecture, but she understands dummy.

"So- you don't like Puck, River?"

She looks to Duo. "But you say you're his friend?"

It's easier when things are clear cut.

"We're not always best friends," Duo says. "And I think I'm speaking for both of us, there. But listen, what exactly was he talking about? He said I teased him about his-" Duo isn't sure he can use the word 'boyfriend' in this case.

"About Havelock?"

"Yes," she says, a scowl still on her face. This is mostly from confusion at this point.

She is not sure what is going on, but she doesn't like it!

Well, the unvarnished truth is probably best, in this case. And it's not like little girls don't understand being in love. Hell, they probably know the idea better than most.

"Puck was mad because I told him I knew he was in love with Havelock."
smallestopener: (hmm)

[personal profile] smallestopener 2010-05-13 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Huh?

"But- that doesn't make much sense."

Oh, Ingress. Welcome to being friends with Puck.
maxwellsdemon02: (Annoyed)

"Yeah, it's not like it isn't obvious."

To people who have known him for a few years, away. Puck is admittedly inscrutable to many, but when you've had hair pulling fights with the guy, he's easier to read.

Ingress has lost this thread of the conversation, since she does not know the details about Havelock and Puck. She's relieved that there is a Havelock and Puck, because she was quite worried there for a minute.

"So... You're both friends of Puck's. And you tease him and call him dummy. But you're friends."

Um. Okay. Maybe she should ask Puck more about this.

"This is really weird. But okay. Um. River, I think I'll talk to you later, okay? And, um, you too, Duo."

Maybe.

She gives a rather feeble wave and wanders off. Yeah, she wants to find out the real story from Puck.

"I think we need to have a little talk with Mr. Goodfellow," Duo says, tapping his spoon on his empty ice cream dish.
