"Ah." Knox lets that sink in. If he were home, he'd banter and then slink off. But here, and with a man of the Old West, he holds his tongue and his actions. "It's lawless in Arizona in your day?" Is that before or after Wyatt Earp?

"There's plenty of Pinkertons and deputies lookin' to uphold the law."

Some, of course, are better than others — the ones who aren't corrupt or dead, anyway.

"Arizona's no Dodge City, but it's wild enough to turn a decent profit."

"You ever hear of the Southern Pacific Railroad?"
