Luna Lovegood walks into the bar with her nose buried in Beyond Basilisks: The Hidden World of Experimental Breeding.

She seems only vaguely aware that she has stepped from Hogwarts into Milliways. Her attention is on her book. And on the faint rustling sound that has been following her since the end of her Transfiguration class. Clearly, she thinks, her ear for detecting nargles is improving.

In actuality, the rustling can be attributed to the sign stuck to the back of her robe – a piece of parchment with LOONY LOVEGOOD in purple and puce.

It's fairly lurid. And flashing.

"Really? What does he invent?"

Mr. Lovegood's interests rather run the gamut.

"Science stuff," Enzo says, a mite sheepishly. "I don't understand most of it. His big thing was a gateway command to contact other systems, back before most people even believed there were any."

He looks uncomfortable as he says this, and hastily continues, "And he made some kind of improvements to the system archives, and he designed his own exoskeleton suit."

Luna is trying to picture something called an exoskeleton suit. The mental image is pretty strange, even for her.

"What does a suit like that do?"

"Lets him walk around and do stuff. He's... not exactly a sprite anymore."

Luna takes a moment to mentally unknot that.

"He can't walk very well?"

"He can slither."

That gets a raised eyebrow.

"Like a snake?"

"Mmmmmore like a slug. He's a null. That's a kind of blob about this big." His hands waver between six and ten inches apart.

Luna frowns, contemplating the space between his hands.

"You must favor your mother," she says at last.

Enzo shakes his head with a humourless little laugh. "I take after him. He used to be a sprite. Then he got nullified. That's... usually like being dead, but his mind was brought back, even if his body wasn't."

It sounds a good deal like You Know Who to Luna. Or like what a lot of people speculate has become of You Know Who.

Hopefully, Enzo's father is not evil.

"I'm not sure I'd want to live like that," Luna muses.

The mind is a wonderful thing, and no doubt about it. But to be disembodied just seems like it must be unpleasant.

"They've been trying to find a way to restore him, but it's never been done before, and he's a special case anyway so there's even less to go on. But he does okay, with his exo-suit."

"I'm glad then, that he has some way to get around."

She imagines Enzo must be happy, too. It's hard to lose a parent.

"Oh, it's a great suit," Enzo declares, cheering up a bit. "He can even dance in it!"

Luna grins.

"Then it must be quite a magnificent suit."

"Here, check it out!"

Enzo materializes his family photo with a pwing! There's definitely an interesting variety of relatives, including two babies.

"That's him," Enzo declares, pointing at the robotic figure. "See, the head's the control chamber."

Luna studies the picture. And smiles.

"He's quite handsome, isn't he?"

And the thing about Luna? She means it with all sincerity.

"Uh... thanks!"

Definitely loony. But so are most of his friends at school, in one way or another. What the heck.

Luna quietly beams.

"You're welcome."

"So... what about your dad? What does he invent?"

"Oh, lots of things. Most recently, Spectrespecs."

"They're very handy for helping you see new things."

That sounds suspiciously like FentonTech.

"Like ghosts?"

"Oh, goodness, no," Luna says.

With a bit of a laugh.

"You don't need Sprectrespecs to see ghosts. They show up quite well on their own."

Hogwarts has a sizable ghost population.
