Alex wandered in, a small bag of coin in his hand. He headed straight for Bar, and set the bag on her. He patted Bar. "Payment due, and extra, Bar, for Lorna's tab, and mine, split evenly, please." He was feeling rather jovial. Things were going well for Lorna and he, and their adventures in space had gone from cramped and annoying to fun, comfortable, and profitable.

Alex glanced at the tab board to see his and Lorna's tabs rise. With a grin and a deep breath, he settled to a barstool and tapped Bar once more. "Can I have the New York Times, a glass of root beer, and some cobalt blue base lace weight yarn, with a circular size two."

The items appeared and he smiled as he settled in to read, knit, and drink.

"Well with hindsight, we should have done that." Guppy admits. "But some of them are from relatives. Frogs sent me in here to pick up some stocking fillers to keep them occupied. Fortunately our present to Alex arrived yesterday. He wanted a live penguin but said he couldn't have one, so he's having a xylophone instead."

He nodded. "Nothing wrong with that."

He blinked.

"A xylophone instead of a penguin? Wow. You are a sucker for punishment..."

"Well we're hoping he'll be fairly tuneful. It's not a loud or expensive instrument."

"I suppose so. Sounds like you've got your hands full these days. Between all that and coming here? How do you balance it?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Well, my days haven't been 24 hours long for a long time..."

[summerscurse]

"Oh, yeah, because of the time differences? Or does your time stop back there, too?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"It slows down a lot back home - a couple of minutes pass at most, depending on how long I'm out."

"Aha. Well, I'm glad of that. Everyone deserves a break, especially doctors."

[guppy_sandhu]

"I get more free time than I used to have." Guppy says. "This'll be the first year since I graduated that I haven't worked Christmas day."

[summerscurse]

"Good. Tie off prepares you for the days and nights that never end." In Alex's experience, those always come.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Definitely." Guppy says. "And it'll be nice to have a good, relaxing Christmas with the kids."

Alex nodded. "I am looking forward to the future, and one of those of my own."

He smiled.

"I'll toast to that." Guppy says.

Alex raised his glass and clinked it with Guppy's and then drank.

"May you have a Merry Christmas, Guppy."

[guppy_sandhu]

"That and a Happy New Year to you too."

Guppy takes a drink.
