Mallory steps behind the bar without complaint when she gets a napkin saying that Bar needs a nap. She puts on an apron, rolls up her sleeves, and finds some interesting looking drinks in the recipe book before writing on the specials board:

Non-alcoholic drinks are half price!

"I wanted a theme of some sort. I picked things that seemed easy to make."

"What is one drink you would like to drink?"

"I don't really drink. Other than an occasional glass of wine or some sake, that is. I don't handle it well and it doesn't take much to put me on my ass."

She studies the other young woman.

"You don't really seem old enough to be drinking, yourself."

Ginny nods: I'm almost 17, mostly the bar doesn't mind"

It's true when you've lived her life she could use a drink sometimes.

"Sorry, but unless the drinking age in your world is sixteen, I won't be serving you alcohol. I can get you something without it, if you want."

She takes her responsibility seriously.

"Coke with Cherries please."

"I can do that."

She get a generous sized glass and adds ice and cherries before topping it off with Coke. She slides it across the bar.

"You said almost seventeen. Is that the legal age where you're from?"

"Yes, You're of age at 17 in my world"

She then smiles and sips her coke.

"It's twenty-one in America and twenty in Japan, where I live now. Seventeen seems awfully young."

"Our world is different. I went to Japan once."

"Did you? What did you think of it?"

It's always nice to see things from another perspective.

"I had a lot of fun we got chased and had to escape."

"Which one's non-alcoholic?" Guppy asks, peering at the list.

"Oh, none of these are, but I can get you anything you'd like."

She tries to think if any of the drinks could even be made without alcohol; most only have a couple of ingredients.

"Oh, in that case I'll have a pepsi, with a couple of ice cubes and a cherry please." Guppy says.

"That's easy enough. Teetotaler, are you?"

She gets a generous sized glass from under the bar and fills his order, sliding it across to him.

"Or on duty?"

"I don't drink much unless I'm stressed, I could be asked to work, and I've got two kids to sort out when I get home." Guppy says, thanking her for the drink. "If I have alcohol, my wife prefers I metabolise it here before I go back to the kids."

He offers a hand. "I'm Guppy, not sure if we've met."

"Mallory."

She shakes his hand with a smile.

"I think we may have met briefly, before. There was probably some medical emergency or something, since I know you're the doctor usually working around here."

"Oh, yes, that's likely." Guppy says. "I'm sorry, I meet a lot of people."

"Don't worry about it; this place is full of people. I'm amazed you're not busy twenty-four/even with the amount of crazy things that seem to happen around here."

"Actually, we don't get a massive number of patients, it's just that there's not many of us." Guppy says.

"That surprises me. I saw that goofy kid that can turn to ice jump off the roof last week with some crazy ice glider. I thought there might have been some casualties from that, but he seems to live a charmed life. By the time I got from my room to the place he crashed, he was already up and walking around."

"Well, for everyone that's got a dangerous lifestyle, there's someone who has healing powers."
