Caribbean inlet, late evening

There is a mermaid in lake's Caribbean inlet again, splashing and turning in the moonlight and waiting for something interesting or worthwhile to turn up at the shore.

There's some sort of metal statue on the shore, beeping and flashing to itself, but Tamara has looked at it and decided it's just not interesting.

Figureheads don't taste nice. Mermaids learn that when still little.

It's not that Pavel has decided to go looking for a mermaid. Really. He's just walking along the sand where it's warm, barefoot but keeping out of the water.

The beaches are a bit shallow there, so Tamara doesn't come right up. Instead, she drifts a stone's throw away, turning over in the warm water, showing off her chest and scaly fish-tail.

The sweet young men will surely notice. He can't not.

Oh, yes, he notices. And he looks right back away again because she's not wearing anything.

You could say he's a little shy that way.

Mermaids very rarely wear anything at all. It's not their way. They may drape their hair over their chest, is all.

She waves to him with he tail fin, giggling.

He smiles a little at the wave, but keeps walking. Well, it's definitely a mutant fish, as Katya put it.

He's still not coming closer.

Carelessly, she starts humming.

It is a very lovely sound.

It is a pretty song, but he chooses to stay where he is, sitting in the sand to watch her.

There is a cat padding along the dock, looking down into the water in hopes of an unwary fish.

She's not fish.

She's not human, but she's definitely not fish.

Tamara comes swimming up to the dock, to look at the little white animal.

A cat. Some ships carry cats, to keep the rats down. They don't taste very well.

Depending on how discerning the palate, she could be close enough to either.

The cat blinks slowly at the fish-woman, green eyes bright against the white.

"Good afternoon," he greets, idly curious.

"Oh!" she giggles. "You can talk! Since when can cats talk?"

"Since when can fish?" he queries, sitting neatly with tail wrapped around his paws.

She leans on the dock.

"I'm not a fish!" she giggles. "I'm a mermaid!"

There's suddenly a man standing on the end of the dock. He didn't walk there, he's just...there. Where did he come from?

Never mind. It is a man!

Tamara comes closer.

The man watches her with what appears to be mild interest - but he doesn't lean over or do anything else to bring him closer to her reach.

She leans on the dock and looks up to him.

"Hello," she says. "Are you a sailor? Do you know any songs?"

"Me, a sailor?" Seimei chuckles. "I'm afraid not, ningyo-san. I get terribly seasick. And while I know some songs, I don't think you'd much like to hear me sing them. My musical talents are mediocre at best."

She giggles.

"I like all songs, regardless of the talents of the singer. Sing?"

Shufti's taken to the (slightly unusual) habit of bringing in a load of washing and hanging it out at a leisurely pace on a washing line she's set up between two trees near the lake, for the purpose of mermaid-watching.

She brings the basket up and hangs up a few of CJ's shirts, then spots the mermaid and looks around.

"Hallo." she smiles.

Her Security badge is in her pocket; she'll press it at a casual moment to get some backup, just in case.

Tamara is curious.

"That's some funny sails!" she says as she swims closer to look at them

Then, she giggles.

"That's human clothes! No good as sails, and that's not a boat, either."

[shufti]

Shufti giggles too.

"Yes, these are my husband's shirts. It's raining at home so I brought them out here."

She didn't bring any of the kids' clothes, not wanting the predator to know about her children at this point.

"Why are you trying to sail the dry land with shirts??" Tamara asks.

This human female is crazy!

[shufti]

"Oh, this is just to dry them." Shufti says. "The land doesn't move."

She hangs a few more up. "I suppose you don't get out onto the land much?"

[areyoumyjolly]

"No," she says. "I'm a mermaid! I try to avoid it."

She can have legs, but it's no fun, and she falls dry far too easily.
