He sings well enough to make the performance not an ordeal... getting most notes right.

Carlotta sighs. If only life were as simple as the song.

She doesn't feel like the biscuit any more.

As the song finishes, Connor frowns a bit, putting the microphone away. "Wanna talk about what's wrong?"

[fiery_ring]

"It's all that's expected of most women, isn't it? Marry. Have a baby. Do ironing forever."

She looks up. "It's the bloody war! My married life was supposed to be performing, on tour six months a year, travelling all around the country! And if I eventually had a kid, it'd be the same for them."

"Well, Molly Jones was a singer, actually." He sighs. "War is hell. And you know how true that saying runs, right?"

"People have been doing it since ever, and in the end, war never solves anything."

[fiery_ring]

"I know it's hell." Carlotta says. "I've been there and discovered most of the enemy are just people like us."

[leadinghome]

"War is worse than hell: hell punishes sinners, and war punishes everybody." He pours her a cup of tea. "No sign of it coming to an end soon?"

[fiery_ring]

Carlotta accepts the tea, and shakes her head.

"It's going quicker than in some worlds. But it's still going to be years."

[leadinghome]

"Unless the people in charge suddenly realize they are killing people. Not just pushing numbers." The young man shakes head. "How did it start?"

[fiery_ring]

"I think Hitler invaded somewhere. Austria, or Hungary, not sure which of those pushed the balance."

[leadinghome]

"Back home, he had the German Army invade Poland, in late 1939." He does not see a problem, in mentioning such, since Carlotta said it's going differently in her world, which means she checked for similarities already. "September if I remember right."

"The war lasted six more years."

[fiery_ring]

"Oh, yes, he invaded Poland too." Carlotta says. "I wasn't sure what exactly started the war."

She nods. "We look set to be in for a long haul."

Connor gives a nod. "I guess that's one of those times when Milliways' helps? Somewhere to relax, clear your mind, so you can tackle the problems as they come."

[fiery_ring]

"Well at least I have access to modern health care." Carlotta says. "It helped a lot when I had the infection, and Teja pampered me rotton."

[leadinghome]

"Another advantage of Milliways: medical care." Connor smiles, sipping his tea. "And the food's great too."

Carlotta smiles slightly. "Definitely."

[leadinghome]

"And it helps back home... with myself and KK visiting here, we use less stuff back in Whitechapel." Now he just needs a feasible way to smuggle supplies there.

[fiery_ring]

"I don't think I've met KK, but I'm glad it helps."

[leadinghome]

"KK's her nickname. She doesn't like her given name much." To put it lightly. "We're both from Whitechapel."

Carlotta nods and sips her tea.
