There was so much to be done but it was agreed that a small rest would make sense. Not a full night's sleep but some time in a proper bed. Sam's leg was hurting again as he opened the door to his room in the Abhorsen's House and found Milliways staring back at him.

Quickly he steps through for fear it won't be there again, the last time he was here feels a lifetime ago and the weight of the Milliways' Dead is strange. He walks towards fire with a small limp as the lights reflect off his new surcoat of the gold royal towers crossed with the Wallmaker's silver trowel.

Once he sits down, he ends up staring into the fire and trying to get his thoughts in order but he's not sure it will work any better here than at the Abhorsen's House.

"But when you are done with your present duty, then you may look and find that which lets you begin the tradition again," Teja nods, thinking in longer perspectives than just the next battle.

"If we succeed,"

The odds are long and there's so much to do and Nick's mixed up in all of it.

"I am sure you will," Teja says.

Indeed, he must, if only for Yrael's sake.

Sam nods, he knows they must but its still terrifying,

"How have you been?"

"Short a companion in the forge," Teja says, "but I went to my people often. You are back in time to come to the harvest feast, should you wish to."

"I'd enjoy that but I don't know how long I can stay,"

He hasn't checked his door since he entered and if its still there then he needs to return.

"But if you are still there, you are invited," Teja says.

"Thank you, its more I don't know how long I'll be in Milliways this visit. Have you been working on any interesting projects?"

"I have been making toyes for the children, wooden and metal," Teja says. "They love having things that I made."

"I'd love to see them and help with the toy making if there's time. Since I think making things is what I'll mainly be doing if everything works."

"Making things is what you have been doing all along; it is your nature," Teja says, with a little smile.

"And apparently now my duty, it just takes getting used to as I know how to be Abhorsen-in-Waiting."

"Maybe not, as it is your true nature, and not a thing you must force yourself towards," Teja says.

"I know, its still very new."

"Of course it is," Teja says. "But you may trust yourself with this, now."

"I think I can in time. I've just failed with a lot of things that I don't want this to be another one."

"You failed with those things that were not right for you," Teja says. "Making things is."

"I know,"

He knows this is right but he's scared. Things have been bad the past few weeks.

"You make things and mix them with charter magic," Teja says. "That is, as I see it, all you will need to go; and you will have a lifetime getting better and better, training others when your skills have matured."

"I hope it is, but tell me what's been going on here,"

On the other side of the door, he'll be learning quickly. For now he wants to talk to his friend.

Suddenly, Teja grins. Yes, indeed, he not only smiles, he truly grins.

"There was an attack of were-sausages that brought a number of people under their spell," he says. "Only in Milliways..."

"Were-sausages? Was anyone hurt?" Sam's not even sure what a were-sausage is.

"They were hurt while under the spell," Teja says. "Apparently, there was a master sausage controlling them all; I did not see or fight it, as I was busy restraining Guppy, who was affected."

"That sounds bizarre even for Milliways."

"It was," Teja says. "Guppy jumped at me from the rafters that night, and he was covered in a red rash and coarse black hair. I could not not meddle, no matter how ridiculous the idea of were-sausages."
