Two Guys walk into a Bar.

Well. Not quite. There is one Guy is holed up in an otherwise empty booth, referencing the current state of Milliways against the last chapter in the book he is reading.


There is, however, a small face peeking around the Door. He seems to have found the magic room that hides in his home once again. It is a shame that his brother and sisters are not near so that they can see he was telling the truth before.

Still, that does not mean he cannot see if the queenofmay is still here. It's with this in mind that the small boy enters and hovers next to the Door.

"Have you been keeping bad company?" Guy is bad company. Or at least, he used to be. "Perhaps they have not recently received absolution."

"It is the company this place gives me," Teja says. "But then, I do not believe in other men's face. The devil has ever been quite friendly to me."

[landlesslord]

"Then you have been lucky," Guy commented. "Or your motives were purer than most."

[ostro_goth]

"My motives may have been pure," Teja says, "but my methods, much less so. I was ever the ruthless one."

[landlesslord]

"I was the same," he admitted. "Though my motives were not quire so pure perhaps."

[ostro_goth]

"I ever did what was necessary, for my people," Teja says, "getting my hands bloody so none else would have to, and never taking any thing for myself."

[landlesslord]

"That's very noble of you."

Guy never really had any people to belong to. His actions were taken for himself, for the most part.

"I was never quite so selfless."

[ostro_goth]

"It was not selfless," Teja says. "I loved these people, and nothing feels worse than losing those you love, so you will do anything, just anything, for their sake."

[landlesslord]

"I know that feeling," Guy lost the woman he loved and now that he is here, will lose her over again at his own hand. "I was responsible for that loss though.

"I did not have the courage to do just anything."

"You were responsible?" Teja asks, looking at Guy with something between doubt, and deep sadness.

[landlesslord]

"It was my hand that drove the sword into her belly." He still doesn't quite know how he did it, just that one moment she was standing facing him talking and then she was dying in his arms.

[ostro_goth]

Teja looks at Guy, with unfathomable darkness in his eyes. "It was my hand that drove the sword into the belly of my beloved Myrtia, also," he says, "and when I took aside the helmet and cloak of our mortal enemy she had used as disguise to come to me, it was she who lay dying in my arms."

"Your beloved is not the only woman to dress in the guise of your enemy," Guy revealed. "Mine disguised herself for a number of years to carry out her own secret missions in the land we lived in.

"Though she was not disguised when I killed her."

He had know it was Marian facing him. It might have been less painful if he had not known.

"I would not ask why," Teja says. "None shall be forced to remember such pain."

"I had thought that a day might come when I would be," there is one blessing that the End of Days does bring. "She visits this place from a time in our past, and when the day comes..."

When he kills her.

"Perhaps she would no longer come here."

Of course, he had not expected to come here either.

"If it is the same woman that would not accept your apology, which you spoke of the last time," Teja says, "then still, you might wish to risk everything, anything, to warn her of what is going to happen, before she walks out of that door a last time, and this place falls."

[landlesslord]

"Would it be better for her to know what is fated?" Guy said. "To walk into that square and know the manner in which she is to fall?"

Selfish as it is, Guy does not think he can tell her. For all the love he bears her, he has been cruel to her in the past. To force upon her this additional cruelty...

"Is it truly fated, or would she have a chance to escape you if you warned her?" Teja asks.

[landlesslord]

"If I warn her and she escapes," Guy answered slowly. "Then I would have been able to kill Richard."

It was only Marian, and the sword in her flesh that had disconnected him from that possibility.

Killed the King and won high favour from his replacement.

"But would I have died and found myself here to warn her?"

"That is a time paradox," Teja says, "that I would completely disregard, would it give me a chance to save Myrtia, or, for that matter, Totila."

Pause.

"Who is Richard?"

[landlesslord]

"I do not know that it would work," Guy thought of the things that happened after she died. "And there would be others who would die instead."

As much as he ever really knew Marian, he believes she would not want another to take her place.

"The King."

[ostro_goth]

"You wished to kill your king??" Teja says.

Pause.

"For what reason?"

Sometimes, kings need killing by the people they have been abusing -- like Theodahad, who died at Teja's hand, after he was deposed.

"He neglected his people, used England as a purse to fund his lust for war and glory..."

John was not a good alternative, but at least he was closer to home and could be held more accountable than some distant monarch.

"And I was in the service of his enemy."

[ostro_goth]

"He sounds like a bad king," Teja says, "one that deserved that his men would renounce their allegiance!"

A king was elected, originally, among the Goths; and in dire cases, he could be lawfully if bloody diselected.

"He was," Guy said. "And yet, there were those who would die gladly for him."
