This time, Raven marches into the Bar, sans her brother.

A napkin appears to greet her moments later.

"Really?" Beat. "Sure I will."

That's the biggest source of the problem, Raven thinks, with a slow nod. No one understands, and when that happens, it leads to misinterpretation. And people are always frustrated when they don't understand something.

"Why not? Did something happen?"

"I absorb electricity from everything around me, all the time--power outlets, lights, static in the air, a storm twenty miles off, whatever. But I have no way to regulate how I discharge it other than wearing these control gauntlets." She wiggles her fingers demonstratively.

"And if I don't wear them and build up too much of a charge, I can short out everything within a hundred feet of me, including the pacemaker cells in someone's heart. When I came to the school at first I didn't have them, and every time I built up a charge it was literally like a balloon popping, only it's a whole lot more dangerous to other people."

Raven winces - though it's only as subtle as a slight narrowing of her eyes, a small crease forming between her brows. While her own mutation has never been out-and-out dangerous, she can see how others' could potentially be problematic if that was the case.

"Dangerous to other people, but it doesn't affect you at all?" she asks. "Not negatively?"

"It has some negative effects on me, if I absorb too much," Nori says lightly. "It scrambles my thoughts, and I can't talk slow enough to be understood, everything is like I'm incredibly hyperactive. But other than that, no. The mutation doesn't harm me directly."

The bandages on her arms may seem to say otherwise, but that's more the disadvantages of being a human with moisture content than the mutation itself.
