This time, Raven marches into the Bar, sans her brother.
A napkin appears to greet her moments later.
"Really?" Beat. "Sure I will."
Specials
Mai Tai
Manhattan
Margarita
(And then a little further down - )
Blue Colada
It is her favorite color, after all.

"But I do not like them very much."
Beat.
"Thank you."

Since the ice cream is still out, she caves and serves herself a scoop in a bowl, digging into it with a spoon.
"What's your name?"
no subject
"Hello."
no subject
She offers up the name without prompting, but it seems like the nice thing to do.
"Um, hi. Is the float okay?"
no subject
"Thank you."
Beat.
"It is very good. The float."
no subject
"Good."
no subject
"You like the ice cream?"
no subject
She's still watching X with a curious expression.
"Someone said Bar has the best, though."
no subject
"But if you do not want the best, she will give you that, too. If you ask."
Sometimes all you really want is cheap diner food.
X knows this from experience.

Then there's a beat.
"But - you don't drink."
no subject
"But I like street food. And diners."
So it all works out!
no subject
There's a distressing lack of them in Oxford.
Sometimes she misses the States.
"What's your favorite diner food?"
no subject
In case there was any doubt.
"You have favorites, too?"
no subject
She pauses to consider, wielding her spoon in the bowl, slowly turning it between her fingers.
"I can never say no to eggs."
no subject
X tilts her head a little, curious.
"Or it is not that specific."
no subject
Her voice turns mock-serious for a second.
"I don't discriminate."
no subject
"For the eggs."
Beat.
"But it is okay to have preferences."
So she has been told many, many times.
no subject
Did we mention we're amused?
"Then again, they usually get eaten one way or the other."
no subject
Beat.
"When they are not fertilized."
Those are for something else entirely.

She wrinkles up her nose.
Charles gave her a plant once. It was dead within the week.
no subject
"You do not want to raise chickens?"
no subject
Raven pauses.
"Why, do you?"
no subject
X's response is prompt.
"But I have cats. And fish. And a cactus."
Beat.
"Cities are not good for farm animals."
no subject
Raven pauses.
"How do the cats and fish get along?"
'Cause that seems like a relationship full of conflict. And potential eating.
no subject
"For training them. The cats."
She pauses.
"A strong lid for the aquarium is important, too."
