This is a momentous day in Gotham. But Alex Knox doesn't know that. He knows that it's a sad day. CIRCUS TRAGEDY is spelled out in big letters on the front page of all the papers. Three dead, one teenaged boy left all alone. Sad, and (given Gotham) probably suspicious.

But as for how Dick Grayson is and who he might be, that is something Knox can't know.

"Fair enough. It's new for you though?"

"Yup. That's why it's in a newspaper." He smirks just a bit. "Tragic, though."

"Hmm. Never know how new something is when you look around here."

She checks the top of the paper, notes that it's still local news mostly.

"Watch for the story to wander between sections though. It's not just straight human interest if it's anything like home."

"You mean the crime aspects. It's Gotham. I expect there to be crime aspects when all the story says is that the elephants pooped." Wouldn't be home without it.

"You could probably move a lot of cargo if you could get an elephant to swallow it," says Artemis consideringly, "But as far as I know the elephants were clean this time."

"But everything else was dirty. As usual.

"You from the city that never sleeps without one eye open?" He used that in a column once. Didn't catch on.

"Home of the most consistently creepy architecture in the continental US," she agrees, "And the Bat."

He's like an invisible landmark.

"The best place to grow up." Funny thing is, he almost means it.

"Alex Knox, some version of Gotham 1995."

"Artemis, 2010, also some version of Gotham."

"That's an unusual name."

"Mom and Dad were into myths."

"That's better than being into calling your kids Moon Unit, I guess." Ah, the 70s. "You go to school in the big city?"

"Gotham North. How about you?"

"Columnist with PM. Went to MacArthur High a looooong time ago." Seems longer than 14 years since they kicked him out and told him it was time to get a job.

"You know the Post has better comics."

Ah, priorities.

"See, that is proof we are from different Gothams. The Post merged into the Globe when I was a kid.

"But...don't tell me my bosses, but we don't have the great comics." He smirks a bit.

"Man, there's always these little things to trip you up."

He laughs a bit. "It's Gotham. Nothing is ever perfect there." He looks at the paper again. "Nothing even comes close, some days."

"If it did, we'd all thing we were in Metropolis."

"God forbid. I would go nuts there. Too clean, too nice, too...Super." He likes Superman. Who doesn't? But that is not what wants to report on.

"What, you don't want your bank heist to happen with power armor and lasers?"

"Actually, in our Metro, no one ever tries even that. People give Supes and that town a wide, wide berth. I think they're afraid he's like a big brother in the sky, listening to everything, watching everything from above." Alex's tone says that he doesn't think this is the case.

"'Big brother is watching. Man you're boring,'" quotes Artemis, "Really, it won't last. Someone is going to try and get around him eventually."

"Luthor tries. And never seems to have a clue. But otherwise...he's been at it for over 10 years now. Long before the other heroes. He's one of a kind.

"But the others...yeah, the super-villains are showing up more and more." Boring? Yeah, he knows that to any teen he must be, at some level.

When you can listen to everyone in a city the size of Metropolis, everyone is boring.

"No Captain Marvel yet? They're pretty close it looks like, on the TV anyway."
