Today was, all in all, a good day. When the Bar pops up a request to Ellen to take the helm, she's only too happy to do so.

William's had a long day but pretty good and Horus is twining around his ankles when he walks in.

When he sees Ellen behind the counter, he smiles and sits down as Horus hops from his lap to the counter, "Hey Ellen. Which drink is nice and cool? Also could I get some milk and tuna for Horus?"

"Well, the Tarzan one's got several different kinds of juice blended with crushed ice," Ellen says. "No alcohol, but it'll cool you down. Machine Gun Joe has vodka and juice and blended-in ice cubes, so one of those, I think."

She turns to the reach-in fridge behind her to get the milk and the tuna.

"How've you been? I've been kind of busy lately."

"Not too bad, gettin' a little busy, but nothin' I can't handle. I'll try the Machine Gun one,"

There's always a lot to do around the ranch and he's been busy with it but nothing more than normal. Horus bats at Ellen's hand and meows at her.

Ellen nods and sets the milk and tuna out for the kitten. She'll need both hands for the ice- more specifically, for the frozen orange juice that's going in the blender. As she adds the shots of vodka and turns to look for the cranberry juice she says, "I had a feeling. How's your family doing?"

"Good, Mark keeps gettin' stronger and he's able to help out more. That makes Ma fret but she knows I'm takin' care of him,"

Horus starts to inhale the tuna, because tuna!

"Well, I had a so-so day today," says the mildly-unpleasant smelling (five days in Paktia without a shower or a change of clothes will do that to you) SEAL in combat gear as he sets his carbine down on the bar and take a stool. "Where's that fall on the spectrum?"

Sure, no problem.

".... probably somewhere in the area of wanting an A-Star," Ellen says. "It's got whiskey and vodka in it, along with something called Bailey's that I don't recognize. Unless you just wanted a beer, of course, that's good too."

Re: Sure, no problem.

Voodoo shrugs. "Sure, try anything once."

Ellen nods and starts reaching for the bottles- first the Bailey's, then the Jameson's, then a bottle of Stolichnaya. "I didn't know they ever made vodka with vanilla in it," she notes before turning to get the heavy cream and the nutmeg. "Weird. Anyway, how've you been?"

"...'Bird Bath'? Do I wanna know?"
Well, Claudia's day has been a lot better than the last couple weeks, so that's something.

"It sounded funny," says Ellen with a shrug. "And there's a kind of vodka in it that's named after birds, so I think that counts. Also two different blue things, although I can't pronounce the one that starts with a C."

"Yeah, I don't think I need that much booze. What's in the non-alcoholic one?"

"Orange, pineapple, and lemon juice," Ellen says, "strawberry yogurt, honey, something called grenadine, and ice. It goes in the blender."

She learned how to use one of those months ago, a fact of which she is rather proud. There weren't any in the Vault and she's never seen a working one on the surface.

"May I hope your own day was a pleasant one, Ellen?"

Diana punctuates this with a smile as she settles in at the bar.

"It's been a while, I think. Unless time's gone sideways again. I almost wouldn't be surprised."

"Well, I wouldn't say pleasant, but it worked out all right overall," says Ellen. "Hi, Diana. It's good to see you again- I'm not sure, have we seen each other since the bar was nearly destroyed?"

"Sometimes that's all that can be asked."

Her observation is just this side of wry.

"As for that -- no, no I don't think we have. It was almost like old home week for me, though fortunately I didn't run into any alternate universe versions of any friends or enemies."

It's a refreshing sort of change, in its way.

"Were you here for that, or is that a question better left unasked?"

"Oh, I was out when it happened," Ellen says. "After everything went all translucent I just couldn't deal with it any more and went home. I was in my world for two months solid before I wound up here again by mistake- I thought the Bar'd been destroyed, so I didn't try coming back. So there's that."

"Hi, Ellen," says Mark. "No armor today?" He's smiling as he says it. He's not wearing Burger Mart gear today, just jeans and a shirt, and has a book bag over one shoulder.

"It's upstairs," Ellen says, jerking a thumb towards the staircase. "I had to change out of it after combat- it was covered with groundwater and mirelurk guts. Welcome back, Mark. It's good to see you again. Can I get you anything?"

"Just a Coke. I assume a mirelurk is something big and nasty?"

Ellen nods and goes looking for the soda that vaguely resembles her old familiar Nuka-Cola. As she does so she says, "Oh yes. Mutated crab species. The small ones are a little taller than me and the biggest ones are six and a half feet tall- they're bipedal." She turns and rolls up her right sleeve, indicating a jagged, faded scar. "That was from one of their claws, the first time I encountered one a year ago."

It's the message at the bottom of the specials list that draws a wry smile from him.

Hoshi finds a seat on an empty stool and patiently waits for Ellen to work her way over to him.

Eventually she manages to make her way around, and smiles. "Hi there," she says. "What can I get you?"

"I don't know what any of the things are that you've got up there," he admits.

"Maybe either the one without alcohol, if it's good? Or else just a cup of coffee, please."

"I don't really know most of them either," Ellen confesses. "I picked the names out of a book of drinks. The one without alcohol is mostly fruit juice and blended ice- I can do that for you pretty quickly, if you like."
