milliways_bar | Happy Hour, Cubefall Edition!

It's been a pleasant enough month. After all the hullabaloo of the Shindig cleared out, Kate took some time to herself to relax. She's been around, in and out of the stables as usual, but mostly sticking to the libraries and her room.

She's pleased when she comes downstairs and gets a reminder of just what the date is.

The familiar screen pops up:

Hello! Welcome to Milliways. Today, Milliways marks the Cybertronian holiday of Cubefall, the anniversary of the day upon which the Allspark first landed on the rocky world that would become Cybertron. Would you like to sample some possible reconfigurations? (y/n)

Kate grins, taking some time to pore over the choices. The robot is a little unsettling; the horse is tempting. She was a fella two years back for the holiday, and she actually quite enjoyed the experience. Folk always like to compare what a woman can do to what a man can do. Getting some actual idea of what the differences really are...

She chews on her lip, and hits the series of buttons it takes to reconfigure her. Hell if she won't have some more fun with this.

When it's done, a napkin pops up on the Bar.

"Y'jus' like askin' me when I'm tall 'nough t'reach the shelves, don't you?" 'he' grumbles, not without amusement.

He leaps over the counter spryly, and quickly scribbles up a few specials.

"Uh-huh! We go flying, and she races me, and I win, and then we have juice."

"Sounds like fun! I've only been able to fly when I've been a bird."

"I can always fly!" Smug toddler is smug.

As well she should be. Flying is awesome.

"Lucky," says Ako, "Is there anywhere you aren't allowed to fly though?"

"Can't fly anywhere 'sides home without soup-vision."

"Supervision."

An important distinction! Especially since soup-vision is the ability to shoot broth from one's eyes.

Moving on.

"That's probably for the best," agrees Ako, "Mazes are bad enough on the ground. Just think how lost people can get when they can be different heights too."

The mun wants to see a hero with that power.

Mairi looks like she's not following this, but Enzo nods agreement. Height isn't so much the problem here as depth; Mainframe has 32 levels, after all, and the deeper ones can get pretty gritty.

Odds are probably best if one reads Dr. McNinja or Axe Cop. The narration is sadly not up to date on those currently.

"How about this, do you ever get tired flying?"

"Uh-huh. An' hungry."

"Right. Now what would happen if you got too tired to keep flying before you could land?"

Mairi gives this due consideration.

Finally, she suggests: "Fall?"

"Right, and that hurts. The same things can happen if something hits you and you stop being able to fly for a while."

"I c'n shield."

"But that makes you tired, too."

"Oh, yeah."

"Right! Or what if it comes up from behind where you can't see it?"

That makes her indignant. "I can scan!"

"She can," Enzo agrees. "It's a keytool thing."

"Really? That's pretty cool too."

"Uh-huh! But not Users."

"No, that makes... Hmm."

Ako has had an idea.

"Can you scan electronics? Like cellphones and things here?"

Mairi's brow furrows. "They don't make sense."

"They don't have to," says Ako, "But you can tell when they're around, right? And if you can tell when those are around, well it won't get everyone but it might help."

Nodnodnod! She can do that!

And, thinking carefully on it, Ako is probably kinda, sorta, scanable at the moment. Robot body and brain and all.

"But be careful, there are all sorts of people here from before computers and they probably won't have anything at all that you can check for without looking and some of them can fly too."

Mairi looks at Enzo, confused by this talk of 'before computers.'

"Just be careful and stick with me."

"Okay!"

That's fair. Also, a strange insight into how Galactus feels about mentioning 'the good old days'.

"I wonder what I scan like right now?"

"Big," Mairi says emphatically.
