Amy reads the napkin she receives this evening over twice, then grins and Cheerfully agrees.

She ties an apron on over her very grand dress and thinks for a moment before writing on the specials board:

Your first drink is compliments of the bartender.

Diana laughs quietly.

"It certainly is, that that. I thank you."

Marketing ingenuity is both impressive and terrifying, on occasion.

"And before I forget my manners, I am Diana, lately of Themyscira. I do hope we are well met."

"I'm Amy. Of Ambergeldar.

"It's very nice to meet you, Diana.

"Have you been coming here long?"

[themysciran_diana]

"The door seems to have found me fairly often this past year. I can't quite swear to how much time has passed here, but I suppose it may be similar."

Sometimes it is better not to know.

"And yourself?"

[kitchen_maid]

"Oh, goodness, let me think.

"Since I was seventeen, so . . . about six years at home, but I think it's a little longer by the way time is measured here."

[themysciran_diana]

"Is there a good way of keeping track of time here?"

Diana has managed to miss most of the holidays.

This may explain quite a bit.

[kitchen_maid]

"Well, seasons pass, in the same order that they do on Earth, outside.

"But mostly, I just sort of keep track of what other people tell me about how long it's been for them, and then try not to worry too terribly much about the details."

[themysciran_diana]

"There's something to be said for that, certainly."

Diana uses this moment to take a quick sip of water.

"And in Milliways it's definitely easier than at home."

[kitchen_maid]

"Keeping track of time is easier here than at home for you?"

Really?

[themysciran_diana]

"I meant not worrying about the details. I'd say it has something to do with the Observation Window, but really it's that the others who come here from my world are generally not from my time."

It's harder to worry that way.

[kitchen_maid]

"Oh, I see," Amy says.

"Well, I don't know about you, Diana, but I tend to be responsible for a great deal fewer of the details here than at home.

"It's much easier not to worry about things when you're not responsible for them."

[themysciran_diana]

"Averting the end of the world is generally something I end up responsible for, at least in part."

Diana's smile is wry.

"But given that the one here seems to be on repeat, it is a little easier to let it be."

For now.

[kitchen_maid]

"Good heavens," Amy says.

"Are you called on to avert that on a regular basis?"

[themysciran_diana]

"Roughly once a year or two."

Diana shakes her head very slightly.

"Some people really shouldn't have phenomenal cosmic power."

Or phenomenal temporal, political, or religious power.

[kitchen_maid]

"That seems a trifle on the frequent side," Amy says.

To put it quite mildly.

"And you have the responsibility to stop it?"

[themysciran_diana]

"Generally not alone, but there are occasionally mitigating circumstances. Some of my friends and teammates -- past and future -- come here. I can't say it's not pleasant to see them somewhere so far removed from work."

[kitchen_maid]

"It is rather nice to have a place you don't have to be at work, isn't it?

"What is it that you do, exactly?"

With the averting and all?

"It's fairly wonderful, especially at the end of a long day."

Diana will never deny this.

"I've been an ambassador in the past, but that deals with averting a different sort of crisis. Tell me, does your world have people known as superheroes?"

[kitchen_maid]

"No, I can't say that's a term I know, I'm afraid."
