Ambriel is outside, examining an uprooted tree. It seems there was a very large disturbance here.

But no metaphysical damage to the structure of Milliways. Nothing to worry about, then. Just something to keep an eye out for.

The angel perches at the top of the upturned roots and looks out over the lake.

Good question.

"It's been good to me. It's let me make some good friends, and let me keep the one friend I thought I could never see again. But after so long, I really am hopeful about being able to leave once in a while.

"You?"

"I have enjoyed the company. And made a friend or two of my own. Are you bound? I understand that is the correct terminology."

"Yes. I died and came here. And then got restored to living but unable to go home." No reason not to tell even a stranger this.

"That must be frustrating indeed. Where is your home?"

Living through this much linear time is weird enough for Ambriel. That sounds beyond the pale.

"An Earth. More specifically, America at the start of the 21st century. Though I didn't really call any one place home for a while." That lighthouse was more a refuge than anything else.

"The Americas, yes." Ambriel knows them, but is rather unfamiliar with all they contain. In the 21st century, anyway.

"Did you wander by choice?"

"Pretty much. It seemed like a good way to live and to accomplish what I wanted to.

"Where are you from?" Time to ask some questions of his own, yes?

"I am stationed here, for the time being. I have no particular country or planet that I hail from, in my home universe."

"Stationed here? As in, on some sort of assignment?" It that even a possibility? Because that would be something new.

"Yes. I came here after Milliways was destroyed and reassembled, to learn about what happened. And hopefully to help prevent it happening again."

Not to fix it, mind you. Ambriel is more of an early alert system than someone who can knit the time/space continuum back together.

"Who sent you here?" Is there actually someone in charge of the Bar after all?

"My superiors. They sensed the ripple of energy at the end of the universe."

Oh. That isn't what he wants to know, is it?

"I am an angel. My name is Ambriel." There.

"Ah.

"So God Himself...Herself...Itself...needs to investigate this."

At last. At last, Charlie has a clue to the nature of God!

Maybe. He knows that it could never be that easy.

Ambriel smiles.

"I'm afraid I do not bring word from God," Ambriel says. "I am no messenger."

"No, I suppose I shouldn't expect that.

"Have you learned anything?" He hopes angels don't have to go back to Heaven and write blue ribbon reports or other homework.

"Very much. But little about the incident that brought me here, other than a few personal accounts."

The angel shrugs. "I have time."

Of course he...she...s/he?...does.

"Need one more eyewitness account?"

Ambriel's interest sharpens.

"If you like."

"I was actually in a shelter of sorts." A box. But he will leave that part out. "Seemed like a good idea to ride it out away from things.

"But that didn't work entirely."

Ambriel also has experience with the Lost and Found. It was embarrassing for everyone involved.

"What happened?"

"There was...I guess a time storm? I was bounced through my own time line. Through my life. And when it ended, things had changed.

"I was three years younger. And alive again." It still astonishes him.

"That is very strange indeed," Ambriel says, raising both eyebrows.

Embarrassing or not, perhaps the Lost and Found needs further investigation.

"I think it has something to do with my own timeline's unstable nature. People die and come back often." He has no idea that what happened to him is nothing like what happened to the other heroes, though.

"Then I hope you will be able to safely return home soon," Ambriel says. "It was nice to meet you, Charlie."

He decides not to bother explaining that so far, he can't.

"You too."
