Dr. Hannibal Lecter tends bar

It may even be that Dr. Hannibal Lecter volunteered to take over from the bar today.

In any case, he is standing behind the bar now, in an apron and with rolled-up sleeves, serving drinks and food. His specials board is eclectic and European, somewhat like himself.

She smiles and her veil lifts gently across her cheekbones, showing the expression as the corners of her eyes wrinkle. "That's alright," she says. "I'm not very hungry right now. The juice should be alright. I've only just come here yesterday, and my door vanished. I'm still very much getting used to it."

She supposes, really, it's not all that different from where she came in from, for all that she's encouraged to leave there either.

"What was beyond your door?" the man behind the bar asks.

Pause.

"I could make you a vegetarian salad. That should be safe."

"India," she answers. "I've only just moved there, and soon I'm going to the United States, but this was a good way-station, I think. It's certainly very colorful there. And here."

[cook_the_rude]

"Where did you originate from?" he asks.

[x_coriare]

"Afghanistan," she says. "I grew up there, and my mother is still there."

[cook_the_rude]

"Not that far from India," the man says. "What are you planning to do in the US?"

[x_coriare]

"I don't...really know," she says. "I didn't move on my own. It's...a little complicated, quite a lot has happened in the last week."

She's not very sure how to explain, really. It hasn't yet been very well explained to her. "I think I'm going to a school. Which would be very nice."

[cook_the_rude]

"You are a refugee, and you're not hungry?" the man says. "I can make you pilaw rice with spinach from your home country, if you'd like."

Her brows shift, nonplussed. "I have already eaten today," she explains. "That is all. I am not very hungry right now. I'm still a little too nervous about what's going on to eat very much at once."

[cook_the_rude]

"It must be very upsetting to be displaced like that, and separated from your mother as well," the man says, looking at her with something looking like empathy.

"It's very...different," she admits. "I do miss her, but...I can't find her on my own."

[cook_the_rude]

"Oh?" the man says, looking at he askance.

[x_coriare]

"She and I were separated," Sooraya says with a little shrug. "I have no way of knowing where she is."

[cook_the_rude]

"So, the best way is forwards, and towards new opportunities in America?" the man behind the bar says, as if guessing.

[x_coriare]

"It appears so," she sighs, nodding.

[cook_the_rude]

"Do you know what kind of school you are going to go to?" the man asks. "What do you want to study?"

[x_coriare]

"I don't," she says frankly. "It's a school in New York for people...apparently like me. Mutants," she says, though it's pretty obvious that she's uncomfortable with the term.

[cook_the_rude]

"Oh, I met a number of them," the man says. "And I think I have heard of that school, too. I very much hope that it works as well for you as for some others."

[x_coriare]

"As do I," she says, a little nervous. "Obviously, yes, I do want to go to the school, but I'm a little nervous. It's...very different from Afghanistan."

[cook_the_rude]

"It will be," the man says. "What is your mutation?"

[x_coriare]

"I'm sorry," she apologizes, "But I consider it very...personal. I'd rather not talk about it just yet."

[cook_the_rude]

"You will learn to be proud of it," the man says, "but I won't insist now, of course."

[x_coriare]

"You think I'm not now?"

[cook_the_rude]

"You are secretive about it," the man says. "But really, I don't want to badger you. I honestly, deeply respect your decision to talk or not. Let us talk about something else. Have you met the professor yet who runs the school?"

"I don't know much about it myself," she says. "It's not been very long since I discovered it. But no, I haven't yet. I've only met a few of the people associated with the school."
