Happy Hour

Sameth is rubbing his eyes as he enters because he's not certain when he last slept. Last night he worked for a while and then today was full of court matters that he had to attend which is why he's in his surcoat and sword. He's not neat anymore because it was a long day but matters coming into place for the Southerlings and he only had to address everyone twice.

The hope of some sleep and then maybe some work on a few ideas he has would have been nice but he can do that later. As he orders a wine, a napkin appears and he sighs and nods before getting out the cocktail book.

"What do you do?" He looks to be from a modern Earth and Sameth's not as aware of their clothing ideas.

[king_gary]

"Oh, you know. Political stuff," Gary dodges artlessly.

He looks behind Sameth to all the bottles behind the bar, trying to decide what he wants.

"What's the cider list like today?"

"What sort of political stuff? Do you serve on a council or work for a politician?"

The way he carries himself reminds Sam of some of the hangers on in Ancelstierre politics, "Huge, its Milliways."

[king_gary]

Gary has to consider that.

"Uh. The second one. And let's try that one."

He points at a random bottle behind the Bar. Its contents are bright blue.

"That's not a cider. I think that's a liquor, not an Earth one if that's where you're from."

[king_gary]

"Yeah, let's try it anyway." He seems confident enough. He's either very, very new, or been around long enough to know he can hold his drink, though it's rather difficult to tell.

[makesthings]

Sam shrugs and gets down the bottle and a tumbler before pouring the blue liquid in, it sparks,

"There you are."

[king_gary]

Gary watches it, more than a little surprised. He's done flaming shots, though, so this shouldn't be too much different.



Right?

He takes the drink, and after only the briefest moment of contemplation, he shrugs.

"To politics," he says before taking a drink, which makes everything, from his throat to his sinuses burn. Gary almost immediately starts coughing like he's going to hack up a lung, and even slams his hand on the bartop once or twice.

"That's not bad," he chokes finally.

Sam didn't mean for him to get that bad a drink and frowns, "Do you need help?"

[king_gary]

Gary shakes his head. Clearly what he needs to clear his lungs is a cigarette, which he lights up without thought.

"Nah, I'm good," he says. He even takes another drink to prove it. This one goes down with less fuss than the first, at least.

"Good, drinks here can be unexpected."

[king_gary]

Gary looks at his, watching as it fizzles a bit.

"What is it? I've never seen it before."

[makesthings]

"I've no idea. The bottle's not in a language I know," He hands it over to Gary.

[king_gary]

Gary studies it, and for a moment he almost looks like he understands the label.

"Nope, no idea," he says finally, setting it down. "So what do you do?"

[makesthings]

"I'm a prince and a Wallmaker which means I'm a magical engineer for my kingdom. What about you?"

[king_gary]

Gary almost laughs. "What, like some sort of hot young Gandalf?"

He's not coming on to Sameth. That's just how he is.

When he takes another drink of his mysterious blue fizzy alcohol, he manages to not choke or sputter at all.

[makesthings]

"I don't know who Gandalf is."

[king_gary]

"You know, a wizard and all that. He had a thing for Hobbits. And what do you think that says about him?"

He nods, as if he's just said something utterly profound.

[makesthings]

"I'm not from Earth so none of that means anything to me."

[king_gary]

If Gary looks confused, it's because he is. Greatly.

"Then where the hell are you from?" he asks. "Mars?"

[makesthings]

"No, the Old Kingdom."

[king_gary]

"..."

Gary looks around quickly, to check if he's being trolled.

"Where's that? Rome?"

[makesthings]

"No, its on another world."

[king_gary]

"Like Mars." Just to be clear.

[makesthings]

"If that helps you think about it better then yes. Has anyone explained to you how Milliways works?"
