EP: Kate Barlow | Main Bar
The door opens to a golden sky, so thick with dust it looks like orange meringue.
The soft chnk of spurs precedes the cowgirl, collar turned up and hat low over her eyes. Once the door closes, she tips her hat back and takes a look around. And smiles.
As soon as she settles at the Bar, she's presented with gift after gift after gift after gift, along with a plate of Solstice sweets and a few gingerbread ... robots? She eyes everything with delight, surprised when she realizes how much time has passed. She wasn't expecting she'd be gone so long. She best start on the thank-you notes straight away.
But first, she does happen to have a few gifts of her own. She unshoulders her bag and leaves the tardy presents with Miss Bar.
Dr. Lecter receives a fine buffalo pelt, along with a small parcel of meat, and a handwritten note.
The Sandhu's receive an ornate chess set along with a fine oak board, and five parcels of candy suitable for each family member.
Mr. Tommy Gavin receives a bar of lye soap and a suggestive note on what to do with it, along with a very attractive silk teck tie wrapped in tissue.
Mr. John Marston receives a fine gentleman's hat: it's a high top Derby, and it's bulletproof. The accompanying note says: Keep your head on straight –Kate
Mr. The Kid receives a pair of chocolate brown dancing shoes and a framed picture, along with a handwritten note.
Master Elrond receives a book of poems by Lord Byron, and a jar of Kate's spiced peaches, along with a handwritten note.
Ms. Remy receives a lidded trinket box in the shape of a white cat with big blue eyes, filled with her favorite sweets. The accompanying note is signed: –Blue Eyes
Ms. Ellen receives a set of very practical gifts: a nice length of good rope, tooled leather boots, a fine set of spurs, and a pair of lambskin gloves, along with a handwritten note.
Ms. Dixie receives a set of dime novels and a pair of lambskin gloves in pink, along with a box of chocolate bonbons and a handwritten note.
Ms. Clementine receives a box of saltwater taffy, and while Kate is setting it aside she asks Miss Bar to add a pint of Peach Cobbler ice cream to the parcel.
Enzo & Dani receive a traditional engagement gift: silver spoons, along with a set of silver civil war cannon trinkets, and a gold locket. A formal note of congratulations accompanies the gifts.
Ms. Pyrrha receives a paint box set with several fine colors, and a few horsehair brushes. While Kate is at the Bar, she asks that a bushel of ripe avocados be added to the parcel.
Teja receives a pommel sword and sheath with a gold eagle head hilt and gold inlay along the blade, as well as a handwritten note.
Ratonhnhaké:ton receives a fresh set of writing tools, along with a toy stagecoach and a small parcel of sweets.
William Evans receives a new collection of books, mostly American authors as it's what she could find in Galveston, and a dime novel slipped in. They're accompanied by a small tin of caramels, and a handwritten note.
To everyone else go a jar of spiced peaches and a small parcel of sweets, nuts, and dried fruit.
That done, she settles down to write her thank-yous, occasionally admiring the clay cat and pondering a name change to 'Queen of the Bandits'. No doubt she'll soon break into the sweets, though there's far too much to eat in one sitting. It's a good turn of luck that she feels inspired to share.
[ooc: I've missed all of the fun! Feel free to catch me up and link me to anything you'd like to have tagged, I'm happy to bounce around and see all of the shenanigans. ^__^ This is open throughout the weekend and perhaps longer. Hello again.]

He asks Bar for a magazine to flip through while Kate packs a basket (looks like they're going to be holed up for a while), and he resists following her with his eyes as she walks past and disappears into the kitchen.
Five minutes is a long time. He'll cut it down to three and a half. Nobody's gonna notice.
Eventually the kitchen door opens, and Tommy ducks inside. Grinning, he makes a beeline for her with long, quick strides, leaning in for a kiss.
"Hiya, honey."
no subject
"Cheatin' on the time, I see."
But from the way she kisses him she don't seem to mind too much.
no subject
"Mmm, I was never the patient type."
He gives her a few more pecks on the lips.
"You were away so long, I thought I was gonna spend Valentine's Day all by myself," he adds with a smirk.
no subject
"S'been so long, I forgot how concupiscent you get when I've been away."
She smirks, hands balled in his shirt collar.
"Valentine's Day? Oh, are y'plannin' on sweepin' me off'a my feet?"
no subject
Someday he might reach a point where her using big words is a turn-on.
"And if by sweepin' you off your feet, you mean my picking you up and hauling you up to your room, that's probably the best I can do on short notice."
And she's probably not going to stand for that.
no subject
"Eager."
Smile broadening, she pulls him into another kiss.
"Mmm, that's about what I would expect from you."
Master of Romance, he is.
no subject
But he pouts a little at her next statement.
"Well, hey, I can-- plan stuff. I mean, if I'd known you were gonna get back in time, I would've totally planned stuff! If you want, I can still-- uh, plan stuff, y'know, to make up it."
Because we all know that Tommy planning stuff always goes well.

"I didn't expect I'd be gone so long. Figured a week, maybe two. Not months. S'all right, sugar. You're not big on gestures, an' I don't expect that."
She pats his rump lovingly, striding off to help herself to an apple. Fresh fruit is marvelous.
no subject
But after she pats his butt and starts noshing on an apple so nonchalantly, he stares after her like a dog wanting to please.
"I can do gestures! Plans, gestures, I can totally do those things! I just need a little, y'know, prep time, that's all. But we can do something for Valentine's Day, no problem. Just us, something nice, and-- and y'know-- romantic and whatever."
Romantic is one of those words Tommy sometimes has trouble saying, like commitment.
no subject
Romantic and whatever is, quite possibly, the most tender thing she's ever heard him say. Which would be amusing under other circumstances, but at this particular moment with him looking so earnest and her fresh from home, it just seems sweet. She smiles.
"Really? Y'mean it?"
no subject
Well, crap. Now he actually has to think of something.
"But in the meantime..."
He takes this opportunity to embrace her again, his arms winding around her middle just above her gun belt. He's missed the bite of the rough-edged leather coupled with the softness of her curves.
"...we could always do other things. Like put that bar of soap to good use."
no subject
It'll feel nice spending a day alone with him.
She grins as he moves in, snickering under her breath when his arms snake around her. She puts her half-eaten apple aside and returns the gesture, hands cupped at the small of his back.
"Oh, could we? Didja read my suggestions?"
no subject
Well, also because he forever wants to impress her.
The fact that she doesn't expect him to treat her differently or do special things for her tweaks at him for some reason. He can be that way, he can be thoughtful, maybe even romantic on occasion. If it would make her happy, he'll try.
"Mmhmm," he purrs slyly. "Tell you the truth, the note itself was a great gift, too."
no subject
"I'll remember that next time."
He's so easy. Truth be told, so is she. That may be why most things get lost between them; when you don't need big bouquets of flowers or carriage rides through the snow to feel smitten with someone, you don't think about them. He's a hard fella to shop for, and then again all too easy when the best gift you can give is a salacious word.
She rests her chin against his chest, humming with happiness.
"All right, we can retire t'my room. Jus' lemme hold onto you a li'l bit longer."
She's just not ready to let go yet.
no subject
"Think we can bring up some of that ice cream? Maybe some cookies? Like...Oreos?"
They'll need to keep up their strength through the night, after all.
no subject
She remembers dipping Oreos in ice cream with small, sticky hands, in a treehouse on the edge of the property, with a young boy who had messy blond hair. She grins.
"I think we can manage that all right."
Just so long as he doesn't try dripping it on her. Ice cream is cold.
no subject
"Awesome."
Basking in the glow of her grin, exuding a warmth that he's missed during these cold weeks without her, he leans in and presses a kiss to her brow. He wonders if she knows just how much seeing her smile at the end of a long, rough day means to him. He probably would never admit it aloud anyway.
"Glad you're back."
no subject
"Me too."
She closes her eyes briefly, then bounces up on her toes to press a kiss to his cheek. She'll get the sweets together.
"I haven't missed anythin' since I've been gone, then?"
no subject
"Here? I dunno, don't think so. Ain't been coming in much since you left. Actually, the only reason I came in was to check if you were back. Well, that, and to get some coffee."
no subject
(It's irreparably tinged with affection.)
"Oh, c'mon, Tommy. You'll make me think y'do nothin' but sit in a corner an' wait when I'm not here."
She knows better than that. Or so she thinks.
"What about back home? Are the girls well? Lou?"
no subject
He gives her a sheepish side-eye.
"And everyone's okay back home. The girls are fine, Lou's fine, so's Dad. Not much to report, really. How 'bout you? Everything alright out in Texas?"
no subject
"Mm, everythin's well. I likely should move on soon, but I've got a few things left t'resolve."
She returns to his side with two smaller tubs of ice cream in her hands, and kisses him. Why not? It's been too long to go more than a minute without some sort of touch.
no subject
Two or three times. A week. Tops.
But she kisses away his need to insist on something she wouldn't believe anyway, and setting aside a package of Oreos, he indulges in the contact, cupping her cheek and drawing her in closer.
"Well," he murmurs, licking his lower lip as if he could taste peaches, "before you skip town, I hope you can take me with you next time."
no subject
Her eyes sparkle in the light, keeping the inches between them few.
"I mean t'pull you out my door by its tails."
no subject
It takes him a second or two to add things up.
"Oh. You got that for me so-- y'mean I hafta-- I mean, it's a really nice tie an' everything, but I don't usually wear--"
No, he's not going to win this one, not with those big blue eyes of hers.
"Okay."
