(Not-Actually-OOM: A few days ago, Gavroche and Sunshine come to the conclusion that it's better to show someone you're still their friend than abandon them when things get complicated. The trick is finding the right balance.)

When Sunshine comes in from the kitchen, today, she has a plate of food - a full meal, really - in addition to her tray of baked goods. The plate holds a sizable slice of broccoli-cheese quiche, a spinach and mixed greens salad with raspberries, feta cheese, candied pecans and a homemade vinaigrette dressing, and some toasted quinoa with carrots, sweet peppers, corn and caramelized onions. Though vegetarian, everything in it is a good source of iron and protein. On a smaller plate, for dessert, she includes one of her humongous cinnamon rolls.

She leaves the plate and cinnamon roll with with the bar, with instructions that they are for Jason Todd.

A peace offering, and a sign she doesn't want their friendship to be over, though she knows neither of them is probably ready to confront this yet. They'll work through it, though, eventually. That's what friends do.

Once the plate has been delivered to the Bar, Rae starts arranging her tray of baked goods for sale, and puts up a sign:

Rae nods, with a slight smile. "He'd have good advice there."

And Dr. Lecter wouldn't stint when it comes to giving advice, she would think.

"I've seen his kitchen back in his world. I told him I was tempted to steal the ovens and stove for myself."

"He told me what stove to get, but our mutual friend Yrael had a different opinion, which they then discussed," Teja says. "I am turning the kitchen in my house near Vinci into one that will better fit a family, and being lived and cooked in every day."

"Ooh, nice," Rae approves, smiling. "The kitchen is the heart of a house, so it's important to have one that will suit you and your family's needs. What were their suggestions?"

"A gas cooker, versus one that is called---"

Teja ponders.

"Inception? Introduction? Some electronic technology from the future. I would pick the gas which Dr. Lecter suggested, which is merely fire, and easy to understand; but Yrael said it would need a tank, and that would mar our courtyard, and also not be quite safe, as there are sometimes earthquakes in Tuscany."

"Induction," Rae nods.

"Gas ranges are easy to understand, and are quite reliable, but they require more venting to keep them safe, and can really heat up a room. And earthquakes can break gas lines and make explosions a very real danger. Induction is quicker, takes up less room, and you waste a lot less energy heating things up using it, but it is a bit trickier to get used to, when you're used to using fire."

"Induction does sound better," Teja says. "But I must speak with Pyrrha -- if she says she cannot cook on one of these induction stoves, then I shall put in whichever kind she wishes for."

"That'd be the best option," Rae nods. "This will be your family's kitchen, so decisions on what to put in it should be family decisions."

"Little Egil cannot yet have an opinion," Teja says, now smiling outright. "It is just his safety that is a large consideration."

Rae smiles at the grim Goth's obvious love for the child. "That's one of the things about the induction range - because of how it works, it leaves the stovetop cool to the touch, and doesn't stay hot after you're done cooking. Safer for tiny, curious hands."

"If Pyrrha would work with such a thing, then indeed, we shall have it," Teja says.

Pause.

Then, he eats the second caramel, the one with the salt.

Rae smiles, watching and waiting.

"Can you tell a difference?"

"Yes, I can," Teja says, amazed. "There is a difference -- this one is more taste, and less pure sweetness. I prefer it."

Rae chuckles. "As do I. The chocolate cake isn't terribly sweet, in itself, but the ginger fudge on top is. And I wanted to see what the bittersweet dark chocolate of the cake, the crunch of the pistachios and pecans, plus the spicy warmth and sweetness of the ginger fudge would be like, with some of the salt on top."

"Are you content with the effect?" Teja asks.

"I am, but I don't just bake for myself. It's good to get the opinions of others, who might catch or suggest something I wouldn't have thought of."

"I doubt I could provide much helpful comment," Teja says. "But I would try a piece, nevertheless. If I may?"

Rae snorts a faint laugh, moving to put a piece of the cake onto a small plate for him.

"Of course you may," she says, offering him the plate, the cake, a fork and napkin.

"I did not mean to be funny," Teja says, accepting the plate. "Thank you! Why was I?"

"I had offered you a piece of the cake in the first place, so I figured whether you may have a piece or not to be a given," she grins.

So to speak.

"I had almost said no in the first place, so I thought I would ask again," Teja says.

"I try not to give my offers of food expiration dates," she smiles.

"Though I would still like your opinion on the cake."

"I shall eat some," Teja says, "and then try to come up with opinion, like a Roman. They had opinions on everything."

"Did they?" Rae grins. "They would have loved the globenet. Everyone talking about everything, all the time, ignoring the distance between them."

Teja starts eating.

"That is like the T-Minus of the trolls, or the internet in Pyrrha's world, or the one where I may go to in Italy," he says.

"I've heard it has different names in different worlds, yeah," Rae nods.

"...I have a T-Minus, here, actually. I just keep forgetting to log on." Sheepish.
