Some time after this sign goes up, Guppy settles down at the bar, with the List, trying to work out who is still here.

They haven't checked it for a while, he notes, looking at some of the names.

"My name is Elrond Perdhil, or Elrond Half-Elven," Elrond replies. "I am a healer. I learned the skill first at the battle field, so I have much experience in dealing with wounds and other injuries. I set bones."

He smiles.

"I deliver babies. I have some experience with the illnesses that may plague Men. When last I did work here, some days ago, it was just a small matter of lessening the pain of injured ribs."

"Excellent, those will come in handy." Guppy says, putting him down on the list.

"We've not delivered a baby here for a little while but it does happen, now and again."

"It is always a privilege, getting to assist in bringing new life into the world," Elrond says, smiling.

"Oh definitely." Guppy says. "I delivered two of my own, somewhat unintentionally."

"All three of mine,"Elrond says. "But that was the plan all along. How many children do you have?"
Genuinely interested.

"Three - Fry, Coral and Brooklyn." Guppy says. "Fry is five, Coral is about to turn four, and Brooke is one."

Elrond smiles. "So they are all busy learning about the world in each their own way. It's a precious time, when they are little."

Precious as in wonderful and fragile and fleeting. Not as rose tinted and stick illy sweet.

Fry never told him his name, so he doesn't make a connection.

"Oh definitely." Guppy says. "They're always surprising me."

Elrond nods. "It is a long time since we last had little ones in my home, so I enjoy talking with the children here. Whether about storybooks and the nature of both history and stories. Or about earth worms."

"Ah, you've met my son then." Guppy says, grinning. "Finally stopped him digging up worms from Mrs Beauchamp's lawn."

"He did seem very enthusiastic, " Elrond says.
"Very curious about life. And mindful of his responsibility toward his worms."

"Oh yes, he's a very serious little boy." Guppy says.

"That is a good thing when one wants to have any sort of animals in one's keeping," Elrond says, seriously.

"He's very kind to animals." Guppy agrees.

"He says he's going to count how many worms there are in six months and then put them back."
