He falls into a chair with a creak of aged leather and the clink of buckles against wood, this hobo in leather and wool and too many years.
He'll order tea in a minute.
First he's going to enjoy being somewhere Dave isn't. Somewhere Horvath isn't.
He imagined this all being... easier. Or at least more straight forward. And involving fewer duels in bathrooms.

"Not on purpose, I assure you." But he'll take one of those cinnamon rolls, once he pours out the tea.

It wasn't the most fun conversation ever. Or even really a conversation. Mostly a shouting match between two intensely stubborn individuals.
He's sure Dave will be back soon.
...
Surely.

But she's catching something now.
"He didn't take it well, did he? What happened?"

Or at least not as good at bending the truth as he seems to think he is.
"That bad, huh?" Rae murmurs, wincing as she nudges the plate of cinnamon rolls over to him. To her credit, saying I told you so doesn't even cross her mind.

Isn't the Prime Merlinian supposed to be taking a stand with Balthazar, not against him?
"Anything I can do?" she asks, then adds, "Besides the obvious, I mean." Cinnamon rolls and tea can only help so much, and generally not in a lasting way.

It would be very loud, and most likely give a new definition to a 'charged' argument.

Less haste, more speed - that sort of thing.

He already knows that dog won't hunt where Sunshine's concerned, however, and keeps his griping to himself. He'll have some cinnamon roll instead.

She most definitely remembers that they never end well.
So Sunshine skips to the offer Balthazar already knows, but that Rae feels is important enough to reiterate, anyway, "You know if you ever need any extra reinforcements, you just have to ask."
"I've still been keeping up on my studies, though it has been interesting times for me as well, this last year."

"My... side-job is going as well as one can hope. Some elected officials from New Arcadia and some surrounding cities have been able to successfully campaign on the strength of the significantly lowered Other crime rates," she continues. Rae is completely all right with them - and SOF - taking all the credit.
"And I've not gotten arrested or abducted in the meantime, despite all the best efforts of my SOF's supervisor. We're working to get her removed from her position, so she can't threaten to expose what I've been doing, or that my SOFs have been covering for me. We have enough evidence against her, we just need the opportunity and the right way to approach her supervisor, the Executive Director of Special Other Forces, so that doing so also doesn't expose us."
Politics are ridiculous, Balthazar.
