Fry is sitting at the bar, with a piece of paper.

His teacher mentioned something today called a 'report'. When he asked what this meant, she said that it's something your parents get at the end of the year to show how you're doing at school.

Fry thought this was quite a good idea, so he's now industriously writing.

Mrs Pink's behaver is quite good and she does not wear the smell to school any more. She calls people dear too much.
I don't think she has lernt much from me but maybe she tried to a bit.'

Knox is at the Bar, flipping through the channels. Sixteen squid-peras, news channels reporting on people he's never heard of, and a strange amount of golf tournaments. Between the 1967 British Open and the 1968 US Open, he turns and sees Fry.

"Hey, kid."

"Hello Alex."

Fry looks up. "Why do people like golf so much?"

"You got me. Mark Twain once called it 'a good walk spoiled.' I think that's too generous." Alex loves any number of sports. Golf isn't one of them.

"I played adventure golf once but I wasn't very good. Dad says it's about physics though."

"You mean with the windmills and the putting greens made of artificial turf? We call that miniature golf in the US." Which is at least a good way to kill some time on a date if you're a teen.

"It doesn't have a windmill." Fry says. "But it's got a giant banana."

"Probably the same thing, and your dad is probably right." It's certainly not athletic skill.

"He said he wasn't going to take us all again until we got more manual dexterity." Fry says. "Because Brooke got cross and threw the ball in the water when it took her twenty hits."

"You should place with a six or eight stroke maximum. It's not fair to the other players to make everyone wait." And also, it's less likely to allow for tantrums.

"We were, she wouldn't stop." Fry says. "She's only two. She can count quite well for a two year old."

"Tell your dad that he should never take a two year old golfing. Even if she's a child prodigy." Like that Tiger Woods guy everyone's talking about, who was golfing on a talk show at the age of three.

"She's not a prodigy, she's a terror." Fry says, determined to hold his reputation as the smartest in the household.

"Are the rest of you good at it?" He forgets how many "the rest of you" constitutes.

"No. Mum's not bad, but I'm not very good, and Coral just kept putting her toy fox in the holes, and Gil's a baby. And Dad managed to hit his ball into the car park."

It's easily done, to be fair.

"They should give a prize for that. Distance award or something."

"I think they gave him a fine." Fry says. "And told him not to be a plonker."

"A plonker. I have to keep that one." British English can be fun to use in America.

"Where are you keeping a plonker?" Fry asks.

"I mean, I have to remember that word. Britishisms come in handy to confuse Americans." Insert that quote from Shaw about being separated by a common language here.

"American English has lots of different words." Fry says. "But we get lots of American TV."

"I think we get lots of British. But I never watch much." And Rapunzel never watches much TV, aside from movies.

"When American tv does British voices they sound really weird." Fry says.

"I think they hire a lot of Brits and Australians to play Americans now, and it works fine."

"But when you pretend to be British you think we all sound like the Queen."

"You mean we all sound snooty?" He says snooty as if the word itself were snooty.
