AU week raven telepath Ragnar

[bigarmy_strangepants]

 A tall man in a rough homespun blue shirt enters the bar, followed by a pair of ravens.

He seems to have been here before, as he claims a rolled-up map from the bar, orders a tankard of ale, and settles at a table with one of the ravens, studying the map.

The other raven sits in the rafters, watching.

A small boy comes up to the raven, peering at it. He has a budgie on his shoulder.

The raven turns its head, and caws at the boy, as if in hello.

"Perched, and sat, and nothing more."

AJ tilts his head, like the bird.

[bigarmy_strangepants]

"---ore!" the raven echoes.

[fry_sandhu]

Hm, well then...

"'"Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”'"

"--- ever-ore!" the raven echoes again, gravely.

AJ smiles, and flaps his hands just a little.

"'Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning—little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door—
Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,

Now, the raven gets it right.

The raven sounds almost proud at its feat.

There's another raven in the rafters, one with a mind almost like a man. He watched the new ravens closely.

The raven in the rafters tilts its head at him and caws a cautious greeting.

[intoaman]

The raven caws in return, an open and friendly greeting. He hops a little closer, cocking his head from side to side. The jewelled band around his leg jangles.

It is shiny, so the other raven peers at it, turning it's head this way and that.

Shiny!

[intoaman]

Diaval caws and holds it out to be seen, flapping a little as he tries to balance.

The new raven touches it with its beak, then flinches back as it feels the magic.

[intoaman]

He caws and apology and hops back a bit to demonstrate it's use.

Two taps of his beak against the stone and he's human shaped, balanced birdishly on the beams. "See, it's safe magic."

The raven caws and hops about and gives all signs of extreme astonishment and curious fascination.

[intoaman]

"It let's me change, whenever I want to. So I'm not stuck in human shape when I want my wings."

"What's that you have?" Gyda (now slightly younger and in homespun) goes up to his table. The ravens only get a passing glance, as she's become used to seeing them trailing her father.

At her side is her sword and shield. She'd been hoping for a lesson from him like with Bjorn, but she found him here instead of the farm.

"Oh hello," he says. "It's a map, a picture of land and sea."

She pulled up a chair, kneeling instead of sitting so she might see better. "Which bit of land do we live on?" There were so many lands, how could anyone tell which was which?

Ragnar points, "Here, at this corner."

[like_quicksilver]

She looks to where he was pointing. All of the images had what looked like runes on them, but no runes she recognized. "And where's this England you talk about? Do you know how far it would take the sale there?"

Before, when they raided Russia, the voyage would take several months.

"Only a few days each way, over the open sea," Ragnar says.
