Sinric comes down to the bar looking quite pale and tired this evening.
He stops at the bar to leave a package and note for Sherlock and turns to go back upstairs.
A rat however catches up to him and encourages him back to the bar, sitting him down with a bowl of soup and a pot of tea. Bar's orders.
He thanks her and starts on the soup.
Very much botherable. He could use the company.

He nods. "Small things, nothing powerful. Little tricks a traveller might use. To see clearer in darkness, to make water clean to drink, that sort of thing."

"Sinric." She walked over to his table, her biology text under her arm. "What happened?"
She had a present for him as well, but at the moment his state of health was cause for concern.

She recalled at some point that Sinric was a sort of wanderer, so she knew he'd appreciate a chance to talk of new lands. "We spent a day in Jerusalem. I bought gifts for everyone-except for Athelstan, his is the dream catcher I made for the crafts show at the fair."
And she'd wanted to give it to him ever since.

He smiles warmly. "You are most kind, Gyda. Did you like Jerusalem? I saw it when I was quite young. A beautiful city, I recall."
"That is very kind of you. What is a dream-catcher, may I ask?"
no subject
While not entirely like Kattegat, she'd forgotten how much she'd missed watching crowds and people interact.
"A dream catcher is a wooden circle frame with thread woven inside to make a sort of web, and dangling from the frame is yarn or leather with beads and feathers hanging from it. In tribes from North America, it's believed that if you hang the dream catcher above your bed, the bad dreams are attracted to the feathers, but then get caught in the web and burned up in the morning."
They could just be stories of course, but anything to help Athelstan not get nightmares after all.
"I'll get your present. It's rather small, but I wanted something you could bring with you on your travels." With that, she pulled herself from the table and left through her door, returning a moment later carrying a small wooden pendant on a leather necklace. "It's carved from olive wood and is the hebrew word for life."
She beamed, proud that her studies were allowing her to recognize hebrew writing.

He smiles at her description. "That is a wonderful gift, and I know he will treasure. Very thoughtful of you. I hope to learn more about the peoples of the Americas. A dear friend and I plan to research what we can of their world before the coming of Christianity."
He gift makes him smile so brightly, accepting it with joy. "Chai." He nods, "one if the few word of Hebrew I still remember. It's been a long time since I spoke the language. Thank you, Gyda. It's beautiful. You honour me."

(He needs to talk to Jim. He doesn't want to talk to Jim. Ugh.)
So the package and note get a small smile. Sinric's rather amazing, really.
He writes a note in return,
My friend,
You are generous beyond what I deserve. I hope to see you soon, and we can share tales of our travels.

Jim is here. Be cautious, my friend. I'm told he appears quite mad. Sinric.

Not seeing him, instead he writes, Yes, I imagine he would. This is not uncommon for him. He's been putting on an act in the bar for quite some time, and is no longer acting. This may be unsettling for a while.

A rat points him out when Sherlock gives the note to the bar.
