Twelfth Night Party, Pontmercy style!

You -- yes, you, whoever you are -- got an invitation to the party. All of Milliways is welcome!

If you choose to come, you'll find Bar directing you to a big round tent that went up this afternoon on the lawn outside the bar. Marius and Cosette and various friends spent a lot of time this morning ferrying decorations in, and the waitrats spent a lot of time in the afternoon ferrying food in, but the doors won't officially open until close to sunset.

But this isn't a cheap white plastic tent, oh no. It's warm and domed and made of thick fabric, something like a very large yurt. A bit of magic keeps out the drafts, making everything extra cozy.

There's a fire in the middle of the floor, with a low screen encircling it but also magic meaning that this fire puts of warmth but will not actually burn anything, even if you step right into it. The floor is wood -- great for dancing, if you feel like it! There's a piano over against the wall for anyone who wants to make some music.

Everywhere there are garlands of European evergreen branches and herbs, studded with bright dried fruit and sparkling ornaments. (Mistletoe might very well be among them, though the Pontmercies haven't thought to supply that as an intentional party game.) There are candles and lanterns everywhere, and a big chandelier. There are no electric lights at all -- it's all fire -- but a good number of them are magical, so that nothing's going to get set on fire or covered with smoke. The general intended impression is of genteel, welcoming festivity, in a very French and very early 19th century European way.

There are food and drinks galore. Come in and enjoy the party!

[OOC: Party-style post! Subthreads for various categories and activities, etc. Open from now until whenever!

Edit: As of Joly's arrival, Cosette now has a mini-polaroid camera. Fear, Milliways. Feel free to assume that she's popped up to take a candid picture of your character(s) at any point, as long as they're not doing or wearing anything scandalous! She will happily give the resulting picture to your character if they want; it probably won't be a very good picture, in terms of composition or focus, but it will be cheerfully enthusiastic.]

Brienne's hand goes on instinct to where her sword hilt should be. But she did not bring Oathkeeper to this party, deeming it rude.

She steps back, so that there is a chair between her and Erik, but she still judges him within reach. "I warn you," she says, "do not harm anyone here."

He looks at her, amused.
"Whether I do or whether I don't will have nothing at all to do with you, " he tells her.

Brienne flushes, and scowls. Oh, so it's like that, is it? He thinks no woman can stop him from doing as he pleases.

A treacherous memory rears its head. Harry Percy had said that his duel with the vampire got interrupted by Teja, for Harry's own sake, because the vampire was so powerful that there could be no fair duel, and Harry would be crushed.

Well. Just because Teja thought so doesn't make it true. And even if Harry would have been defeated, that doesn't mean Brienne would be.

But while Brienne has her pride, she's no hothead, and so she says, "I don't care why you don't attack people here. Just see that you don't."

His smile widens.
"I've been coming here for a hundred years," he says.
Which is kind of true. It's not in Bar-time, but why care about the details?

"I need not hunt here to get my dinner."

Brienne's scowl doesn't go away, though she's relieved to know he won't attack anyone here. "Is that what you do in your world? Hunt people?"

"Yes."

And he has no problem admitting that.
"Though these days it's hardly necessary."

How vile, and how terrifying. Brienne wonders if she should do something about this, Bar's rules about no outside business notwithstanding. But--

"What do you mean, hardly necessary?"

"Plenty of people enjoy the experience," Eric purrs.
"Enough so to come back for seconds."

Brienne gapes, and then blushes. "People...enjoy...having their blood drunk?"

It sounds indecent. Especially when he says it like that.

He smiles and his smile very strongly suggests that oh yes. Indecent is just the right term.

"It can be quite an - erotica experience," he clarifies.
Helpfully.

And now her face is very hot, and probably crimson. Very helpful, Erik. "I--uh--that sounds...perverse," she manages. (Is getting your blood drunk a sin? Brienne realizes she doesn't actually know the answer. The Seven-Pointed Star doesn't say so! None of the septons and septas she's known have said so! But the way he's talking about it, it must be a sin).

"That's certainly a view point," he concedes. "And I've known plenty of people who held that. U till they got between the sheets and tried it."

Did he mentioned that beds are sometimes involved?
And sheets?

And nakedness?

Yes. Yes, he did. The redness of Brienne's face reflects that.

...well, it's not really any concern of hers, is it? "Better that than you attacking the unwilling for their blood."

Though now she's wondering how the bloodsucking works and does he actually bite people and why do they let him and why would anyone, just why.

Those is amusing.

"Oh I agree. It's far less work and I enjoy the sex."

Now that they're sharing.

Brienne would normally flee at this kind of talk, but she's startled into blurting out, "So they lie with you after this?"

(Yes, she's still blushing).

"During mostly," he replies, casually.

Brienne can tell he is having fun at her expense, and she does not like it one bit. She wishes she could call him out, but that violates Bar's rules, and she is part of Security now. It would betray her oath to do such a thing.

So she asks, instead, "Does that not violate the laws of your country? Doesn't your lord or king do something about it?"

His smile widens.

"I am the law," he tells her. "Vampire society is just fine with my dispositions. As for human law -"

He shrugs, with a clear air of 'who cares'.

Brienne's scowl gets even scowlier at that. But she doesn't know what to say, other than you should be arrested, which...she thinks he's gotten the message on that one by now.

This vampire society, though--that sounds ominous. "Are all those of your kind so depraved? Hunting for humans, drinking their blood?" She's asking for reasons, and she's certainly going to the Library to read up on vampire-killing methods after this party.

He knows she will.
