Twelfth Night Party, Pontmercy style!
You -- yes, you, whoever you are -- got an invitation to the party. All of Milliways is welcome!
If you choose to come, you'll find Bar directing you to a big round tent that went up this afternoon on the lawn outside the bar. Marius and Cosette and various friends spent a lot of time this morning ferrying decorations in, and the waitrats spent a lot of time in the afternoon ferrying food in, but the doors won't officially open until close to sunset.
But this isn't a cheap white plastic tent, oh no. It's warm and domed and made of thick fabric, something like a very large yurt. A bit of magic keeps out the drafts, making everything extra cozy.
There's a fire in the middle of the floor, with a low screen encircling it but also magic meaning that this fire puts of warmth but will not actually burn anything, even if you step right into it. The floor is wood -- great for dancing, if you feel like it! There's a piano over against the wall for anyone who wants to make some music.
Everywhere there are garlands of European evergreen branches and herbs, studded with bright dried fruit and sparkling ornaments. (Mistletoe might very well be among them, though the Pontmercies haven't thought to supply that as an intentional party game.) There are candles and lanterns everywhere, and a big chandelier. There are no electric lights at all -- it's all fire -- but a good number of them are magical, so that nothing's going to get set on fire or covered with smoke. The general intended impression is of genteel, welcoming festivity, in a very French and very early 19th century European way.
There are food and drinks galore. Come in and enjoy the party!
[OOC: Party-style post! Subthreads for various categories and activities, etc. Open from now until whenever!
Edit: As of Joly's arrival, Cosette now has a mini-polaroid camera. Fear, Milliways. Feel free to assume that she's popped up to take a candid picture of your character(s) at any point, as long as they're not doing or wearing anything scandalous! She will happily give the resulting picture to your character if they want; it probably won't be a very good picture, in terms of composition or focus, but it will be cheerfully enthusiastic.]

It only takes Ysa a moment to put on a cheerful smile, as well, looking around for the host, the hostess, and anyone she already knows!
And, perchance, anyone that looks like they don't know anyone.

Re: Meet and Greet
It's Mary, as promised: possibly with Jamie in tow if he hasn't managed to avoid it. She leans in for cheek kisses, and then offers a present: a little pomander, just carved wood instead of the elaborate goldwork contraptions one might see, but with pretty rose-petal designs, and smelling of rose as well.

Re: Meet and Greet
It's just - if you've gotten the impression that it will be appreciated that you dress up for an occasion, and you're an Elven lord, and you're high fantasy to boot - well, grandness is sort of unavoidable.
Elrond is dressed in an exquisitely embroidered robe with trailing sleeves. It's as darkly green as the wintry evergreens fashioned into the woodland crown he is wearing. The red berries and dustings of snow look quite lifelike (and perhaps they are), and trailing ribbons of delicate gold make the whole thing sparkle.
The golden embroidery on his robe hints of leaves half hidden woodland creatures (there's a very life-life mouse somewhere around the hem).
He is carrying his smallish harp and a present, wrapped in a white and golden cloth.

Re: Meet and Greet
Party.
And Eric is not one to turn an opportunity like this down, especially not when it is at night, in a nice warm tent, with alcohol.
Not that he partake, but others might and we all know that people make stupid choices when under the influence.
And Eric is often in favor of that.
He is even dressed up.
Sort of.
In nice dress pants and that light blue sweater that brings out his eyes.
(Not the first one, the first one couldn't be saved even by the best dry cleaner in the county and he had never heard the end of that from Pam. Anyway, this ones just like it. Or close enough).
He walks in and surveys the room.

Re: Meet and Greet
But this is good! He has spent the past week or so recuperating mind and soul if not body from his ordeal, so he figures that it is time to work himself up to being social again.
His tentative venture downstairs yields several holiday gifts left for him at the bar, and also an invitation to a party. At first, his heart leaps at the prospect. But then he doubts himself, hesitating over whether he's ready to engage with strangers the way he used to do. When he threw his own parties. Those were good times.
Retreating back to his room, he takes a moment to decide if he really wants to stay in all night. Eventually, the answer is no.
As he regards the elegant handwriting of the invitation, he realizes that he has nothing formal to wear (except for the tuxedo Jay gave him, but he is so not ready to look that extravagant). But--he does have the knitted sweater Bonnie gave him. Black wool with flecks of color here and there. It could do? He doesn't like wearing winter clothes in general, because ugh, clothes, but he's going to make an effort tonight.
So here is an uncharacteristically dressed Emcee--that is, if one has ever met him before and knows his standard of dress (two kinds: minimal and nude)--quietly slipping into the party tent. A bit of smoky kohl lines his eyes, but that is the only makeup he wears. Can't go around completely naked.
(He can sense Eric's presence here. It's all right. He'll maneuver out of his way to be discreet. He wouldn't want to end up monopolizing his attention when there are so many people to...talk to.)

He's in a dark suit, with a teal-blue tie and matching pocket square. It's the most appropriately festive thing he owns, even if it doesn't exactly go with the decor.

Food!
Most of it is of a very 19th century winter holiday sort: Goose, oysters, pâté, fish, fruit and nuts, desserts galore. Chocolate, chestnuts, cream, nougat, tarts of all sorts. It's not very ornate, but there are definitely decorative touches, and a crowning glory of a sugary croquembouche studded with sugared almonds and candied flowers.
However, Bar has weighed in, and there should be options to suit every palate and set of nutritional requirements. All of these are miniature finger food versions, and there are little labels by each one.
Come, fill a plate, and chat with friends as you do.
Re: Food!
...okay so the Bar offers apparently limitless apparently free food all the time. Gringoire's still not going to pass up an apparently open buffet, and Djali is a goat. A goat making many exciting tasty discoveries tonight!
Gringoire is quietly herding her along the tables, managing to be fairly nonchalant about the whole matter. Hey, rich people do public banquets whenever, right? This is certainly an impressive display from the hosts. He's prepared to be complimentary! Or to run away quickly if that seems more appropriate.

King Cake
Bar has provided a helpful sign explaining the custom. Inside one of these cakes is a dried bean. If you find it in your slice, you're king (or queen or other-gender-as-applicable monarch) for the night! No actual powers or responsibilities come with that, but you'll get a very pretty paper crown.
[OOC: Post into this by Saturday 10pm or so EST, and Marius-mun will randomly pick a 'king'! Feel free to post in after that; your character will just get a beanless slice of cake.]

Drinks!
Marius and Cosette have, perhaps foolishly, asked Lesgle and Bahorel to make punch. They know their way around a boozy punchbowl! Which is why both kinds of punch are delicious, extremely strong, and occasionally (intentionally) on fire.
But there's also a Bar-produced bowl of non-alcoholic punch, labeled as such. It too is fruity and hot and delicious! (This one's not on fire.)
There's hot mulled wine, and bottles of regular unmulled wine, and juice and tea and coffee and water and eggnog (boozy and otherwise) and basically every sort of festive beverage you might want.

Music and Dance!
Singing is an entirely expected part of a holiday party so far as 1830s Paris is concerned, so anybody who wants to start up a song should feel free. There are some songbooks, too -- mostly of Christmas carols, but Bar might well have mixed some other things in.
If you want to dance to any of this music, too -- why, the floor is very possibly clear, just at the moment you might want to.

Re: Music and Dance!
The Quiet Corner
Since multiple people in this family are in the latter camp, the party is well-supplied with comfortable chairs. They're scattered around the edges of the room in little clusters for anyone who might want to rest their feet, but there's a particular density of chairs over by a festively crackling brazier.
(Marius can probably mostly be found here.)
Re: The Quiet Corner
(And because even though he's not at all a party person, and even with all the Milliways touches, this is enough of a taste of home to strike him right in the heart. The style is right, the lights are right; everything speaks of childhood and of Paris, of France, of home.)
Even with that, though -- maybe especially with that -- he's not a party person. So he can mostly be found sitting in a chair, perhaps nursing a glass of mulled wine and a plate of food, perhaps in a silent reverie of contemplation, and certainly people-watching.
