The circle of chairs is out in the main bar. In the middle are a selection of fruit pies, with a choice of ice cream, or cream, or custard, or none of the above.

Behind the pies are a large sign.

"It's a communication system, yes," Alana says, nodding. "Based on semi-organic technology. I think it comes from a species called trolls. The system can communicate across dimensions."

That sounds useful and odd, "Across dimensions in the same way that Milliways exists at a meeting place of dimensions? I wouldn't think that would be possible. Talking when ships are in hyperdrive can be difficult enough."

Its possible but requires the right equipment and a ship that can run it.

"Exactly like that," Alana says, easing into another smile. "People in their worlds can talk to people in Milliways, or vice versa."

"And they're secure? No one can listen in?"

"As far as I know, yes," Alana says, shaking her head. "You type or eictate to them, if that makes a difference."

"That usually doesn't decide the security, that depends more on where the data travels and who has access to it."

"I know," Alana says, her smile taking on a wry twist. "But, yes, as far as I know, the lines are secure. The T-Minus system chooses your nickname for you."

He nods, he didn't realize she would know and eats some of his pie, "It chooses it? Why?"

"I have no idea," Alana says, with a bright laugh. "You also have to feed it, by topping off a slime reservoir with a sugar solution."

"Huh, sugar can be hard to find. Sweets usually are, but interesting to know it exists. I hope it help you feel safer."

"You can always stock up on sugar here," Alana says, sobering. "But thank you. I already feel safer, knowing Security has my back. And thank you for the suggestion. I should have gone to them a lot sooner."

"Fear and despair have a weight to them and makes it hard to imagine not having them on you. That makes it harder to do something,"

Its something he's constantly fighting against and looking to find ways to give people hope.

"That's very true," Alana says, inclining her head. "So, now that I've dominated the conversation with news about me, and about the T-Minus, how are you? Still in a port city?"

"Its how the Empire works. No, I'm traveling, stuck in an tiny place with no decent food,"

Soon he'll be at the rendezvous, he's missed Kay and flying.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Alana says, not without sympathy. "At least you have this place to rest and recover. Is Kay with you?"

"No, he's meeting me in our ship at another port. I had to meet with some people and they wouldn't know what to make of him,"

He couldn't take Kay on this job, which left him feeling vulnerable but that's how it goes.

"Why is that?" Alana says, tilting her head. "He's just a droid, right?"

"He can be intimidating," And he's recognizable as an Imperial droid.

Alana blinks. "Is he large? I don't have an idea of how big he is."

"Yes, very tall. I think you saw him that night I was cooking, he leaned through the door."

"Ah, yes, I remember," Alana says, smiling again. "Even leaning through the doorway, he was tall. Do you think he'll ever come here?"

"I don't know," There are a lot of variables he can't control and he doesn't want anyone to shoot Kay.

Alana furrows her brow. "You make it sound like him coming might be a bad thing. Why is that?"

"He says what he thinks and doesn't listen to a lot of people. It wouldn't take much for him to get in trouble here."

"Hmm," Alana says, nodding thoughtfully. "I can understand that. But there are a lot of people like that here, and they don't appear to get into that much trouble."
