Happy Hour

Cassian grew up on an ice planet, he's used to cold, but he doesn't like it. He never seems able to get warm enough. When he comes in, its from meeting an informant on a mining planet where ash mixes with the snow, the collar of his parka is grey with it. At the counter, he gets a napkin, nods and goes behind to set up Happy Hour and set his bag down. First he pours himself a hot caf and then adds a generous dollop of whiskey to it. He decides to keep things simple as he warms up.

Once the specials are up, he takes off his jacket and cradles his warm drink while he watches to see who's around in Milliways.

"Then you should know its good caf,"

Its better than almost all the caf Cassian usually drinks unless he ends up someplace that makes it decently.

"I've had better."

The First order may not have cookies, but they do have damn good caf.

"Why do you keep doing this to yourself?"

Cassian takes a sip of his caf instead of answering as he can almost hear his father's ghost saying that he didn't want him to be a soldier.

This is his life and he will help bring the Empire down. Which he's said before, he's not giving this man any new ammunition.

"You know you're never going to win."

He casually sips his caf.

"We will, the Empire has created so many enemies across the galaxy, it will help bring itself down,"

He knows about all the people within the Empire who are finding ways to work against it. They might not be connected to the Rebellion yet but their work is helping.

[firstorderknight]

"You really should give your enemy more credit," he offers, just a slight sharp edge to his words. "Not doing so will be your downfall."

[childofrebellion]

"I do, but I also know that they're not as invincible as they present themselves to be,"

Cassian always expects the Empire to do something in the cruelest and usually most efficient way possible.

[firstorderknight]

"Invincible, no. But more powerful than your Rebellion. It's all fruitless."

Damn if he doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about.

[childofrebellion]

He can hear that certainty, which again makes him wonder when this man is from. Cassian hates not having as much information as this man has about him and that older Anakin wouldn't share what he knew.

The galaxy needs to be free and the Empire is powerful, he won't argue that, "No, if people can feel safer and be free then its not fruitless."

It has to be, that's the belief that he's built his life around, given himself to. He tries to keep his voice steady, not let too much emotion show but his passion comes through.

Kylo finishes his caf and slides the cup back over toward Cassian. One more, barkeep.

"Hope."

It's disturbing.

Cassian refills the mug and adds some hot caf to his own, then starts a new pot going,

"Yes, hope."

Hope that's built by leaders who can see a better future like Organa and Mothma but put into reality by men like him and others who truly inspire.

"The Empire has hope of its own."

Not that he's going to go into detail.

"What do they hope for?"

He's curious, he has his own ideas, but the other man did bring it up.

[firstorderknight]

"Victory." Mostly, but that isn't all. They have hope in ruling, in controlling. Supreme Leader Snoke hopes for something else entirely.

[childofrebellion]

"Victory and what does that victory look like?"

Again Cassian has ideas, the Empire doesn't have much mercy for those they defeat whether through siege, starving or direct destruction.

Kylo sips his drink before answering.

"Very structured. Ordered. Something the galaxy is sorely missing."

[childofrebellion]

"There was structure and order in the galaxy before the Empire,"

It wasn't perfect but there were ways for change to happen. His father had believed that the Republic could with the help of its citizens better itself. That wasn't possible but Cassian had seen how the Empire didn't listen. Their structure was built on silencing instead of listening.

[firstorderknight]

"Were there, the Empire wouldn't be winning so easily." Sure they'd had setbacks, but the Rebellion falls and Kylo knows it.

[childofrebellion]

"That will change,"

At the moment, the Rebellion isn't as strong as it could be, but it will be.

[firstorderknight]

"Has anything changed? Since you've been around?" It's an honest question. Kylo's up on his history, but he can't exactly place when Cassian's from.

[childofrebellion]

"Yes, more are joining the fight including some who will shift the balance,"

He still doesn't know what to expect from that possible Jedi but they create new opportunities. This man doesn't need to know his doubts.

[firstorderknight]

Kylo looks up at him.

"That's it?"

[childofrebellion]

That's an interesting reaction and Cassian considers him over his caf,

"Were you expecting something else?"

[firstorderknight]

He had, in fact.

"What, no grad battles? No small victories to urge the Rebellion on?"

There are some of those, he knows.

[childofrebellion]

"There are victories,"

Nothing great or grand, but they're making themselves known. That question seems to confirm that this man doesn't know exactly when he's from either.
